Thanksgiving Tips to Help Reverse Type 2 Diabetes

Thanksgiving tends to be associated with over-indulgence and weight gain. You should change your perspective to think of Thanksgiving as a time to devote to gathering and enjoying the company of family and friends rather than eating. Concentrate on eating healthy and getting plenty of exercise and sleep, which are essential for good blood glucose control; and, to help with reversing your Type 2 diabetes.

Thankgiving Tips from the Death to Diabetes OfficeSo, how can you enjoy the holiday while watching what you eat? Here are some ideas to get you through.

Although Thanksgiving comes just once a year, the traditional meal often contains many calories, lots of starches, and a lot of fat. If eating healthy meals every day of the year is one of your goals, you can make your Thanksgiving meal healthier. Use healthy substitutions in your favorite foods, and add a few new dishes to make your traditional dinner healthier and save a substantial number of fat grams.

Healthier Turkey . Turkey without the skin is a low-calorie, healthy Thanksgiving dish, with 3 oz. of light and dark meat having 157 and 132 calories, respectively. However, you add calories by eating the skin, using a butter baster or frying the turkey. As you prepare the turkey for cooking, leave the skin on to help the turkey stay moist while it's cooking, but remove all the skin before you serve the bird. Rub spices on the turkey before cooking, and baste the turkey with its own juice or a fat-free chicken or turkey broth. Buy fat-free turkey gravy rather than making turkey gravy with the fat that drips off during the cooking process.

The turkey itself is actually a very healthy bird. It's a good source of protein, high in niacin, phosphorous, selenium, vitamin B6 and zinc. It is also all protein, no carbs. A three ounce serving of turkey breast meat is just 87 calories, 15 grams of protein and 3 grams of carbs.

Don't stuff yourself on stuffing. The stuffing can pack a calorie, fat and carb wallop. It's dense, usually made with bread, saturated in butter. If you have control over how it's made, substituting fat-free chicken broth for the butter goes a long way towards cutting the fat grams. Adding a lot of chopped vegetables to the recipe can also help. If you aren't in charge of making the stuffing, try to keep your helping small, around 1/2 cup.

Remaking Classic Side Dishes. The ingredients you traditionally use to make your Thanksgiving side dishes, such as greens, okra, green beans and sweet potatoes, are healthy. However, these foods become unhealthy when you add the high-fat, high-sodium soups, large amounts of brown sugar, high-calorie marshmallows and cans of fried onions.

Sauté the green beans with garlic and/or minced onions in vegetable broth and top with raw or lightly toasted almonds.

Mash cooked sweet potatoes, mix with 1 tbsp.  raw milk and bake in a casserole dish until warm. Sprinkle it with a small amount of cinnamon and  xylitol powder and top with roasted pecans.

Make mashed potatoes with skim milk rather than cream to save about 40 calories per tablespoon. Also, use cooked cauliflower to mix with the potatoes.

Healthy Additions. Provide healthy Thanksgiving additions to your dinner table.  Serve a large, green salad as a nutrient-filled, calorie-saving alternative. One cup of green leaf lettuce has 8 calories, three leaves of Romaine has 6 calories and an entire head of Boston lettuce has about 20 calories. Add chopped vegetables of your choice to the greens. Serve with low-calorie dressings.

Serve a bowl of walnuts or some whole-grain crackers with fat-free hummus as appetizers. Walnuts contain omega-3 fatty acids, while hummus and the crackers have filling fiber.

Lighter Thanksgiving Desserts. Pecan pies, pumpkin pies, cranberry pound cakes and heavy desserts may normally finish your Thanksgiving meal, but you can reduce the caloric content and serve healthier desserts. Make a pumpkin custard which has less than 80 calories a serving. Serve baked apples rather than apple pie. A lower calorie and fat-free dessert is angel food cake, which contains about about 129 calories per slice.

Choose Wisely. A common Thanksgiving mistake is eating everything and anything, regardless of whether or not you really want it. Instead, choose only what you really want to eat and pass up the rest. Worry less about offending a host or family member and more about yourself. If you do not absolutely adore a certain dish, do not eat it.

Fill your plate with the healthiest choices available, such as white-meat, skinless turkey with a small amount of gravy, seasoned green beans and a scoop of whipped sweet potatoes.

Consider bringing along a healthful dish to share if you are not hosting Thanksgiving dinner, such as colorful assorted raw veggies with low-calorie dip or homemade, low-sugar cranberry sauce. Avoid fat and sugar-loaded dishes as they will do the most damage. If you feel comfortable, let your host know ahead of time that you are watching what you eat or are on a special diet. The more familiar you are with the menu, the easier it will be to maneuver around obstacles.

Don't get stressed out!
Holidays are stressful. Lots of heart attacks occur on Thanksgiving and the days surrounding Thanksgiving.  Try to remind yourself to breathe deeply throughout the day and try not to sweat the small stuff. And, don't gulp down your food. Eat slowly and be grateful with every bite.

Healthy trade-Offs. When it comes to food-related holidays, such as Thanksgiving, there are typically plenty of options for what to eat. Attempt to make the best choices you can without denying yourself entirely and your body will thank you.

Alcohol provides empty calories and some choices are higher in calories than others. Instead of having two cocktails made from spirits, enjoy a glass or two of champagne made with low-calorie punch or small glasses of wine interspersed with mineral water.

Enjoy crudités with low-calorie dip, grilled veggies, and other low-calorie hors d'oeuvres.

Choose a baked sweet potato instead of candied yams or wild rice instead of buttery turkey stuffing. Fill your plate with veggies and whole grains.

Enjoy one glass of wine with your meal.

Use discernment when dessert comes. Instead of pecan pie topped with vanilla ice cream, opt for a small slice of pumpkin or sweet potato pie with a dollop of low-calorie whipped topping.

Test your blood glucose just like any other day -- diabetes doesn't take a holiday. But, don’t test right before eating. Instead test an hour before eating.  Trust me, you don’t want to find out  that your blood sugar is high right before eating.

Start a new tradition. Take the spotlight off the food. Suggest an after dinner walk around the neighborhood, or play charades or other group activities, to get your blood moving, and to keep you occupied so you don't pick at leftovers, or succumb to that second piece of pie.

Be thankful! It may seem a bit much to go to so much trouble for your health on Thanksgiving but, remember, one of the greatest things to be thankful for is your health.  Treat your body like you’re truly thankful for it.

Be grateful for Thanksgiving. Sometimes we feel bitter about having to deal with diabetes.  On Thanksgiving Day though, it is a good idea to look at what we have and ignore what we don’t.  Today, don’t beat yourself up, just focus on having a nice Thanksgiving Day and all day long in your head, come up with things you are grateful for.

More Tips to Enjoy the Thanksgiving Meal and Reverse Your Diabetes

Divide your plate into three sections: Reserve one-half of the plate for vegetables such as spinach, broccoli or green beans. Choose raw vegetables when possible, and avoid those with added creams, gravies, and butter. If you are not a fan of vegetables or want to have a lesser amount, consider adding/substituting fruit as an option to this half of the plate, such as cranberries, baked apples or pears.

Allow one-fourth of the plate for grains/starches such as mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, brown rice, or cornbread.

The remaining one-fourth of the plate is for protein, in this case turkey, which, without the skin, makes an excellent low-fat and low-calorie choice. A 3 to 4 ounce serving is ideal.

Avoid skipping meals or snacks earlier in the day in order to try to “save” those calories and carbs for the Thanksgiving meal later on. Deliberately skipping meals makes it harder to manage your blood sugar and often leads to cravings and over-eating.

When it comes to dessert, plan to make this a small portion. Eat slowly and enjoy the taste.

After your meal, instead of taking a nap, take a walk with family and friends. Exercise is extremely important for most people with diabetes because it helps to regulate blood sugar, aids in metabolism, and reduces the risk factors for arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries).

With a plan of action, you can embrace the holiday, enjoy the festivities and have a healthy Thanksgiving Day.

High Blood Pressure and Type 2 Diabetes

High blood pressure is usually one of the major health complications associated with people who have Type 2 diabetes. High blood pressure is also a problem for most people who are overweight and live a sedentary lifestyle.

Key Point: If you reverse your Type 2 diabetes, in most cases your blood pressure will return to normal!

High blood pressure, or hypertension, is also one of the first signs that the cardiovascular system is lacking key nutrients and is under serious stress and deterioration. This is due to the heart’s extra force required to push the blood through the arteries eventually causing damage to the inner lining of the arteries. This, in turn, causes inflammation and leaves the arteries susceptible to the buildup of fatty plaque that can narrow or block the arteries and reduce blood flow to the body’s organs. When untreated, high blood pressure can lead to kidney damage, heart failure, stroke, and loss of vision from damage to the retina.Heart muscle

Unfortunately, high blood pressure is a “silent” symptom that goes undetected for years. Consequently, high blood pressure is well-known as one of the major silent killer diseases.

Most people don't realize that they have high blood pressure until another problem arises that triggers the need for a physical exam, e.g. blurry vision, constant headaches, heart arrhythmia, kidney problems. The key organs that are involved with high blood pressure include the heart, kidneys, arteries, and the neural and hormonal systems. The combination of high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes is particularly stressful on the kidneys.

High blood pressure is generally defined as a level exceeding 140/90 mm Hg on multiple occasions. The systolic blood pressure, which is the first number, represents the pressure in the arteries as the heart contracts and pumps blood throughout the circulatory system. The diastolic pressure, which is the second number, represents the pressure in the arteries as the heart relaxes after the contraction.

An elevation of the systolic or diastolic blood pressure increases the risk of Cardiovascular Systemdeveloping heart (cardiac) disease, kidney (renal) disease, hardening of the arteries (arteriosclerosis), glaucoma (eye damage), and stroke (brain damage). Usually a high systolic number indicates problems with the cardiovascular system and the liver, while a high diastolic number indicates problems with the kidneys and the liver.

These complications of high blood pressure are often referred to as end-organ damage because damage to these organs is the end result of chronic (long duration) high blood pressure. Accordingly, the diagnosis of high blood pressure in an individual is important so that efforts can be made to normalize the blood pressure and, thereby, prevent the complications.

For some people, high blood pressure may be defined at a level lower than 140/90 mm Hg. For example, in certain situations, such as in patients with long duration (chronic) kidney diseases that spill protein into the urine (proteinuria), the blood pressure is ideally kept at 125/75, or even lower. The purpose of reducing the blood pressure to this level in these patients is to slow the progression of kidney damage. Patients with diabetes may likewise benefit from blood pressure that is maintained at a level lower than 140/90. In addition, African-Americans, who have an increased risk for developing the complications of high blood pressure, may decrease this risk by reducing their diastolic blood pressure to 80 mm Hg or less.

Important: Not only can kidney disease cause high blood pressure, but high blood pressure can cause kidney disease. Therefore, all patients with high blood pressure should be evaluated for the presence of kidney disease so that they can be treated appropriately.

Diagnosis
The diagnosis of high blood pressure is more than reading the numbers off the monitor. It may take several months of doctor visits, monitoring and testing, including an electrocardiogram to prevent a false reading. The diagnosis starts with measuring your blood pressure using a mercury manometer and a properly fitted arm cuff, with your elbow at the same level as your heart, not below it. There is usually a small difference between the left and right side.

Ideal systolic-diastolic pressure values are under 120/80. Values over 180/110 are a definite concern. If the difference between the systolic and diastolic pressure exceeds 60, advanced atherosclerosis may be present. Values greater than 140/90 are a concern if you have other risk factors such as being overweight. You may require further testing, which may involve wearing a small automatic measuring device and recorder for 24 hours.

To prevent a false diagnosis, have your blood pressure checked while sitting, standing and lying down – if readings skyrocket when you change position, this may indicate a problem with the adrenal glands. All this information is collected and analyzed by your doctor for a proper diagnosis.

Primary Root Causes
In order to understand the best ways to treat high blood pressure (without drugs), it is very important to understand the primary root causes which cause the heart muscle to work harder to push the blood throughout the body. They include: an increase in the volume of blood and fluids, e.g. fluid retention due to cell dehydration; a decrease in the diameter of the artery walls; a decrease in the elasticity of the arteries; an increase in blood viscosity (thick blood); a clogged liver; a clogging of the smaller capillaries in the kidneys; reduced nitric oxide; a constriction of the arteries due to an increase in cortisol levels; a defective heart muscle or heart valve; poor filtering of the blood by the kidneys; and an increase in hormonal levels (i.e. cortisol) due to stress.

When the heart tries to “push” thick, sticky blood through the blood vessels, it’s similar to forcing ketchup out of a bottle. You have to pound the bottom of the bottle to provide enough force to get the ketchup out of the bottle. This is analogous to the pounding that the heart has to perform to generate enough force to push the thick blood throughout the body.

And, this extra pounding can cause headaches and blurry vision while creating more pressure that causes injuries to the linings of the arterial walls. These wall injuries cause inflammatory and repair responses that lead to the production of various proteins and extra cholesterol to form plaque to repair the injured walls. The arterial walls become thickened (arteriosclerosis); and, if there is high homocysteine, this can lead to the formation of more plaque and blood clots (atherosclerosis).

As you can see, there are many causes of high blood pressure. In order to determine which ones are causing your high blood pressure, it is critical to have your doctor perform all the necessary blood tests and other diagnostic tests that may help to better diagnose the root cause(s) of your high blood pressure, including testing for inflammation markers such as homocysteine, C-reactive protein, lipoprotein(a), and fibrin.

When the circulatory system is working properly, it delivers water and blood throughout the body, providing nutrients to all the cells and tissues of the body. Specifically, the blood provides key nutrients to the millions of artery wall cells, which are responsible for the availability of “relaxing factors” that decrease vascular wall tension and keep the blood pressure in the normal range. These key nutrients include Omega-3 EFAs, CoQ10, water, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, magnesium, folate, and arginine.

But, when there is a chronic deficiency of these nutrients, blood viscosity can increase, the artery walls can become damaged leading to plaque formation, or the artery walls can spasm and become thickened, leading to an increase in blood pressure.  Over time, components of the circulatory system such as the blood vessels may become inflamed and damaged, leading to other health issues such as thick blood, blood clots, cold feet/hands, chronic fatigue, and erectile dysfunction. This puts additional stress on other components of the circulatory system such as the heart, which can lead to a sudden stroke or heart attack.

How to Treat High Blood Pressure Naturally
Consequently, a consistent exercise regimen, stress reduction, and a nutritional program that addresses specific nutrient deficiencies can be beneficial in preventing and reversing high blood pressure. Believe it or not, a lot of people, especially in the U.S., have high blood pressure because they either avoid "real" salt or they use the wrong kind of salt!

In general, for good heart health and lower blood pressure, avoid the processed foods, drink raw vegetable juices, and eat more green and bright-colored vegetables such as spinach, kale,  broccoli, and red peppers for the Vitamin C, chlorophyll, and other nutrients. Also, eat wild salmon, walnuts and flaxseed for the Omega-3 EFAs. Foods and nutrients such as filtered water, cayenne, celery, CoQ10, ginger, onions, and garlic nourish the cardiovascular system and help to lower your blood pressure. Refer to the wellness protocol section in Chapter 15  of the Death to Diabetes  book and the Power of Juicing ebook for more details about high blood pressure and heart health.

In addition, use spirituality, meditation, and avoid toxic relationships to reduce the stress in your life.

Refer to Chapter 13 (Body, Mind, & Spirit)  and the wellness protocol section in Chapter 15 of Death to Diabetes for more details.

Drug Treatments for High Blood Pressure
High blood pressure is commonly treated with a drug such as a diuretic, an ACE inhibitor, or a beta blocker. Unfortunately, long term use of these drugs may cause more harm than good.

Some of the drugs listed below can affect certain functions of the body, resulting in dangerous side effects. In fact, some recent studies have shown that  the predominant side effect of these drugs is kidney damage.   And, the kidneys are needed to control our blood pressure! Another side effect is erectile dysfunction in men. In addition, other studies now show that some of these drugs (i.e. beta-blockers) actually weaken the heart muscle!

Diuretics. Some of these drugs may decrease your body's supply of a mineral called potassium. Symptoms such as weakness, leg cramps or being tired may result.

Eating foods containing potassium may help prevent significant potassium loss. You could prevent potassium loss by taking a liquid or tablet that has potassium along with the diuretic, if your doctor recommends it. Diuretics such as amiloride (Midamar), spironolactone (Aldactone) or triamterene (Dyrenium) are called "potassium sparing" agents. They don’t cause the body to lose potassium. They might be prescribed alone but are usually used with another diuretic. Some of these combinations are Aldactazide, Dyazide, Maxzide or Moduretic.

But, don't take a second drug to counteract the first drug! -- eat the right foods that will lower your blood pressure without the need for the drugs!

Some people suffer from attacks of gout after prolonged treatment with diuretics. This side effect isn't common and can be managed by other treatment. This is because of hyperurecemia caused by diuretics.

In people with diabetes, diuretic drugs may increase the blood sugar level. A change in drug, diet, insulin or oral antidiabetic dosage corrects this in most cases. Your doctor can change your treatment. Most of the time the degree of increase in blood sugar isn't much. Impotence may also occur in a small percentage of people.

Beta-blockers. Acebutolol (Sectral), atenolol (Tenormin), metoprolol (Lopressor, Mepressor, Merol), nadolol (Corgard), pindolol (Visken), propranolol (Inderal) or timolol (Blocadren) may cause insomnia, cold hands and feet, tiredness or depression, a slow heartbeat or symptoms of asthma. Impotence may occur. If you have diabetes and you’re taking insulin, have your responses to therapy monitored closely.

ACE inhibitors. These drugs, such as captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), lisinopril (Zestril or Prinivil), may cause a skin rash; loss of taste; a chronic dry, hacking cough most common side effect; and in rare instances, kidney damage.

Angiotensin II receptor blockers. These drugs may cause occasional dizziness.

Calcium channel blockers. Diltiazem (Cardizem), nicardipine (Cardene), Nifedipine (Procardia) and verapamil (Calan or Isoptin) may cause palpitations, swollen ankles edema, constipation, headache or dizziness. Side effects with each of these drugs differ a great deal.

Heart Medications. After a heart attack, certain drugs are prescribed by your cardiologist. Drugs are grouped by type or classes. If you have had a heart attack or a procedure to open or bypass a clogged heart artery (coronary artery) you are probably taking at least 2 or 3 of these drugs.
  • Beta-blockers reduce the heart's workload by blocking the stimulating effects of the hormones epinephrine and norepinephrine. Beta-blockers lower blood pressure and protect the heart from developing dangerous heart rhythms. But, long-term use of these drugs can be dangerous.
  • ACE inhibitors block one of the body's chemical systems that raise blood pressure. to help at lowering blood pressure.
  • Aspirin helps to prevent blood clots from forming in the coronary arteries, but, may damage the inner lining of the stomach, leading to internal bleeding!
  • Anticoagulants lower the risk of blood clots in the veins of the legs and inside the chambers of the heart. Doctors prescribe anticoagulants for people who are at above-average risk for blood clots in the legs or heart.
  • Statins lower bad cholesterol (LDL), but, they do not prevent heart attacks and strokes as advertised! Over the past 20 years, the consumption of statin drugs has increased dramatically (75+ million users in the U.S.!), but heart attacks and strokes have increased over that same period of time! Read our web page about the infamous Statin Drug & Cholesterol Hoax.
  • Key Point!: If you're taking a statin drug, make sure that you take CoQ10 to protect your heart. But, make sure that the CoQ10 is not synthetic!
  • Antibiotics help with some infections, but, some of the popular antibiotics such as the Z-Pak can cause more harm than good! In fact, death is a possibility! Be very careful and do your homework.
  • Warning: The Food and Drug Administration issued a health warning for a widely prescribed antibiotic, commonly known as 'Z-Pack' and says it could trigger potentially irregular heart rhythms in some patients. It's sold as Zithromax or Zmax, but most know it as 'Z-Pack.' It's the most widely prescribed antibiotic for bacterial infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia. However, the Food and Drug Administration warns that it could be deadly for some patients with heart problems.
Please Note: There are many foods and supplements that perform the same functions of these drugs without the dangerous side effects, i.e. arginine, broccoli, cayenne pepper, celery, garlic, ginger, green tea, onions, natto, Omega-3 EFAs, CoQ10. For more details about these foods and supplements, get the Death to Diabetes book/ebook or the How to Prevent a Heart Attack/Stroke ebook.

The "Triple-Killer" Dead Foods that Fuel Diabetes and Other Diseases

Website Reference: http://www.deathtodiabetes.com/Triple-Killer_Foods.html

Triple-Killers = Early DeathAuthor's Perspective:
As many of you are aware now, I refer to most harmful foods and beverages as "The 5 Dead Foods. I started using this term during my lectures when I first started speaking because the term "dead" got everybody's attention. I turns out that these "dead" foods are lacking in any nutritional value and lead us to the graveyard, years ahead of our time.Dead Foods Lead Us to the Graveyard

But, there are some "dead" foods that are even more harmful to your health that the traditional "dead" foods. In fact, these special "dead" foods are devastating on several levels, i.e. physically, emotionally, financially, systemically, hormonally, biochemically, etc.

I affectionately refer to these special "dead" foods as "The Triple-Killers".

I refer to these "dead" foods as Triple-Killer Foods because they contain a minimum of 3 harmful chemicals that fuel most of the top killer diseases including diabetes, heart disease, cancer, arthritis, osteoporosis, kidney failure, obesity, etc.  As a result, these foods can kill you in at least 3 different ways and accelerate your journey to the graveyard as well as the poor house. In addition, these foods will prevent you from reversing your diabetes.

KFC and McDonald's are the top 2 fast food restaurant chains in  the United States, India, China, and other countries. Is it a coincidence that diabetes is now running rampant in all of those countries?Cyanide!

Most of us love KFC and McDonald's because the food is cheap, easily accessible, and it taste so good. But, let me ask you: "Would you eat a hamburger of strychnine because it taste good? How about a bucket of cyanide, or a bag of hemlock fries?

Of course not! We know that strychnine, cyanide, and hemlock will kill us immediately. But, the KFC chicken or McDonald's burger won't kill us ... well, at least, not right away -- it'll take a good 30-40 years.

The top triple-killer foods include the cereal, cheeseburger, fried chicken, French fries, frozen dinners, mac 'n cheese, pancakes, pizza, pot pies, ribs, and subs.

Note: If you have a food that you believe belongs on this list, just contact us and we'll review it for inclusion.

Cereal/OatmealCereal: A Triple-Killer!

Growing up, I loved cereal in the morning, especially Cheerios and Rice Krispies! Today's TV commercials give us the impression that Cheerios will help to lower our cholesterol (but it doesn't!). And, after I got out of the hospital, I noticed that when I ate Cheerios or any other cereal, my blood sugar would rise 200-300 points!

But, at that time, I thought that cereal only contained one major harmful chemical -- the sugar. But, it turned out that the primary ingredient in cereal -- refined grain -- actually fuels Type 2 diabetes!

So that makes two harmful chemicals in the cereal. Where is the third chemical? I could make a case for the "enriched" vitamins and minerals that are added to the cereal, but there's a more harmful chemical than the "fake vitamins". It turns out that most people add cow's milk to their cereal, and cow's milk is problematic at best. In addition, some people add fruit such as a banana to their cereal. Unfortunately, a banana is one of the worst fruits for Type 2 diabetics (until they get their blood sugar under control).

Now I know you're shocked about oatmeal being on this list! Oatmeal is a healthy breakfast for most people, but, if you're diabetic, a grain-based food such as oatmeal only fuels your diabetes! And, if you add cow's milk and sugar (or fruit) to the oatmeal, then, you turn it into a triple-killer dead food.

However, the good news is that you can  easily transform this triple-killer into a healthier food by using almond milk; and, you can transform the cereal into a healthier food by using an organic whole-grain fiber-rich cereal that doesn't have any sugar.

Cheeseburger

I wasn't much of a hamburger person, but McDonald's and Burger King are well-known for their burgers. Hamburgers are the Number 1 sandwich eaten in the United States.

Cheeseburgers make the triple-killer list because they contain refined flour, cancer-causing growth hormones and antibiotics from the beef, and the mucous-forming cow's cheese. And, don't forget all the artery-clogging saturated fat from the beef and cheese!

And, if you add the bacon -- why don't you just shoot the fat directly into your arteries? Can you say heart attack?Have it your way. A heart attack is one bite away.Have it your way: A heart attack is only a bite away.

Burger King has a saying "Have it your way." Have what your way? Have diabetes your way? Have high blood pressure your way? What exactly is it that you're supposed to have your way?

Wendy's has a saying "You know when it's real." You know when what is real? A heart attack? You know when the heart attack is real??

OK -- so you can specify how you want them to make your hamburger and what condiments to add to your burger. Does that make you feel better while you're having a heart attack?

Fried Chicken

There's nothing like a bucket of KFC or Popeye's fried chicken! It's cheap, available on every corner, and taste better than crack (well, that's what I've been told). Fried chicken will make you fat and diabetic quicker than most other foods.

I used to love KFC -- I could eat a whole bucket by myself! -- until I found out it was killing me! Can you say diabetes and heart disease? Smile

KFC and Popeye''s make the triple-killer list because they contain refined flour, cancer-causing nitrites from the sausages and pepperoni, and the mucous-forming cow's cheese.

Warning! KFC knows that we are aware that fried chicken is bad for us. So, they created a new product called grilled chicken. Now, come on! Are we that stupid?? Well, KFC thinks so!

KFC announced that their grilled chicken meal is a healthy choice. The ads ask you to “Unthink what you thought about KFC.” If you fall for this clever slogan, the only thing you’ll be unthinking is your health!

According to a lawsuit filed by a doctor's group in California, KFC's grilled chicken contains a chemical (called PhIP) that can increase a person’s risk of developing cancer even if consumed in small amounts.

Oh, by the way, do you know which part of the chicken is the most toxic and the most harmful to your health? It contains the most fat, the most skin with the least amount of real meat, and the most concentrated levels of antibiotics, growth hormones, toxins, and feces. It's the chicken wing! And, not just KFC's chicken wings! All chicken wings! And, if you barbecue the wings and add the sauce -- can you say heart attack?

Note: If you're still not convinced about the dangers of KFC (and other similar fast-food chicken places), read more about what's in the chicken at the bottom of this web page.

Please Note! There are other fried chicken and grilled chicken products on the market that are not as toxic as KFC or Popeye's. But, most of them, if not all of them, take their lead from KFC, and produce similar products with similar toxic ingredients.

For example, the Chick-fil-A® Chargrilled Chicken Sandwich appears to be a healthier alternative to KFC and Popeye's. But, this sandwich still contains many of the same toxic ingredients! Those ingredients include: sugar, soybean oil, palm kernel oil, artificial butter flavor, modified food starch, salt, dextrose, potassium phosphate, maltodextrin, autolyzed yeast extract, disodium inosinate, disodium guanylate; enriched wheat flour, sugar cane syrup, wheat gluten, sodium stearoyl lactylate, calcium stearoyl lactylate, monoglycerides and/or diglycerides, honey, molasses, monocalcium phosphate, ammonium sulfate, calcium propionate [to retard spoilage], calcium chloride, alum, sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate [preservatives], polysorbate 80, yellow 5, blue 1.

French Fries

French fries such as McDonald's fries really taste good! They must be lined with crack or something! Surprised

French fries are a triple-killer because they're starchy white potatoes that behaves like sugar; contains trans fats; and, contains acrylamide, a carcinogen that is formed when certain refined foods are cooked above 250 degrees Fahrenheit.I'm lovin' it. I'm lovin' my diabetes.

McDonald's has a commercial with the saying "I'm lovn' it." What exactly are you supposed to be lovin'? Being fat? Being diabetic? Going broke spending your money on toxic food? Giving diabetes to your child?

Frozen Dinners

I liked frozen dinners because they were easy to prepare. This was great for me since back in those days I didn't really know how to cook, and didn't really care much for cooking.

Frozen dinners make the triple-killer list because they usually contain some  kind of starch such as potatoes or pasta; MSG; some kind of animal meat-like product, full of harmful saturated fats; refined salt; and partially-hydrogenated oil (trans fats).

Mac 'n Cheese

Man! I really loved macaroni and cheese -- my Number 1 comfort food! I could eat a big bowl of mac 'n cheese and that would be my dinner.

Mac 'n cheese makes the triple-killer list because it's mostly refined pasta; and, contains cancer-causing growth hormones and antibiotics from the mucous-forming cow's cheese. And, if you throw in a hamburger, can you say stroke?

Pancakes

I loved pancakes, especially the ones served at Perkin's and the House of Pancakes!

Pancakes make the triple-killer list because they contains refined flour and  lots of sugar and syrup. Where is the third chemical? Well ... you may think this is a stretch, but most people usually add butter on top of their pancakes, plus a couple eggs and/or home fries or bacon or sausage.

So pancakes are a "gateway" food that leads to other harmful foods. Now, if you're not diabetic and if you avoid the sausage and bacon, and if you eat pancakes made with flax flour, then, you may be okay.

PizzaPizza! A Triple-Killer!

I loved pizza, because it was a quick meal in a box, plus Pizza Hut and several other pizza places were within 2 miles of my home. Plus, pizza was very popular at work.

Pizza makes the triple-killer list because it contains refined flour, cancer-causing nitrites from the sausages and pepperoni, and the mucous-forming cow's cheese. And, don't forget all the excess sodium and the artery-clogging fat from the pork sausage, pepperoni and cheese!

Of course, you can eat a healthier (vegetarian) pizza with whole wheat flour, lots of veggies, little or no cheese, and no meat.

Pot Pies

Pot pies were okay because they were so easy to fix. Pot pies make the triple-killer list because they contains refined flour, excess sodium, and  hidden sugar. They also contain a poor grade of chicken or beef, which contains harmful growth hormones, antibiotics, and saturated fat.

Ribs

I loved ribs! -- still do! Nothing like some baby-back ribs! Smile

Ribs make the triple-killer list because they contain lots of sugar and syrup, cancer-causing growth hormones and antibiotics from the pork (or beef) and the carcinogens created when the meat is grilled improperly. And, don't forget all the artery-clogging saturated fat from the meat.

Smoothies

Smoothies are usually made with healthy ingredients like almond milk, fresh or frozen fruit, ground flaxseed, and yogurt. However, many fast food places such as Burger King, Dairy Queen and McDonald's are selling smoothies, tricking you into believing that they're giving you something that is healthy!

But, these "smoothies" contain high-fat and/or high-sugar items like ice cream, peanut butter, sweetened syrups, or chocolate with fake fruit! What you end up with is a drink that has upwards of 800 calories, enough saturated fat to rival a double cheeseburger, and carbohydrate grams in the triple digits -- and that’s just for the small size!
Consider: A 20-ounce serving of Smoothie King’s The Hulk-Strawberry has more calories than a Burger King Double Cheeseburger with a medium order of French fries (it totals 990 calories, 52 grams total fat, 19 grams saturated fat). Dairy Queen’s Tropical Blizzard (with 1,122 calories, 62 grams fat, and 25 grams saturated fat) has more total fat and saturated fat than the same fast-food meal.
If you’re looking for a healthy smoothie, your best bet is usually to keep it simple and make it yourself by following the recipes in a reputable book such as the Power of Juicing & Smoothies, written by the author of the top-selling book, Death to Diabetes.

Soda, Diet Soda

I liked orange sodas and sometimes Coke, but I preferred mostly bottled fruit juices such as Mott's apple juice when I was growing up. I didn't realize that both the soda and the juice were bad for me!

Sodas contain many harmful chemicals, including: high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), phosphorus, artificial sweeteners, and sodium benzoate.

HFCS is a loosely bound, unstable sugar which forms compounds known to damage cells and tissue and is linked to diabetes. HFCS puts extreme stress on the pancreas and may increase risk for pancreatic cancer.

Phosphorus, in excess amounts, begins to corrode stomach lining, eats away at the liver, upsets the natural pH balance of the kidneys and causes acidity in the body which leads to numerous health conditions and diseases, including osteoporosis kidney stones, colon cancer and high blood pressure.

Artificial sweeteners such as saccharin (a petroleum derivative), Apartame (NutraSweet, Equal and Canderel) and Splenda have become popular for weight management, because the public has been duped to believe that saccharin is effective for weight loss and that the benefits outweigh the potential risks. Thirty years of study show the carcinogenic effects of saccharin in the bladder, female reproductive organs and the brain (tumors) with as little as one to two bottles of diet soda daily.

Sodium benzoate is used in many brands of soda pop as a preservative. Although it is not considered to be harmful it causes hyperactivity in children. The main concern with sodium benzoate is when it combines with citric or ascorbic acid (vitamin C) to form benzene. Benzene is a known carcinogen which increases the risk of leukemia and other cancers.

Soda pop consumption is linked to many diseases which include obesity, cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, heart disease and kidney stones. Every time a soda pop is purchased, the soda pop industry is being empowered to continue selling health destroying beverages. The good news is that there are healthy alternatives that taste even better.

Next time you get a craving for soda pop, grab some fresh, unsweetened fresh fruit juice and add some soda water and you will wonder why you ever settled for artificial flavors and sweeteners when you could have had the real thing. When mixed half and half with soda water you can drink an 8 ounce glass with approximately 80 calories, give or take a little depending upon the juice.

Submarine Sandwiches

I wasn't much of a sub guy, but Subway and Quiznos are well-known for their submarine sandwiches.

Submarine sandwiches (subs for short) make the triple-killer list because they contain refined flour, cancer-causing growth hormones, antibiotics and nitrites from the ham, salami or other lunch meat, and the mucous-forming cow's cheese. And, similar to the cheeseburger, don't forget all the artery-clogging saturated fat from the animal meat and the cheese.

Tacos

I didn't care for tacos -- too messy -- the meat was always falling out! Taco Bell made the taco a popular alternative to the hamburger.

Tacos make the triple-killer list because they contain refined flour, cancer-causing growth hormones and antibiotics from the beef, and the mucous-forming cow's cheese -- just like the hamburger. And, of course, tacos also have the artery-clogging saturated fat from the beef and cheese.

Other Drinks and Beverages

Some beverages and drinks come close to making the list, but they can still be pretty harmful to your health (especially if you're already fat or diabetic), i.e. bottled fruit juice, coffee, cow's milk, milkshake.

Drugs

Technically a drug is not a food, but it is something that we put in our mouth -- from OTC medication pills to prescription medications from our doctor.

Drugs Cause More Diseases than Cure Diseases!

Yes, some drugs are life-savers, but, for the most part, drugs cause more harm than good.

The primary reason why we believe in these drugs is because they're being given to us by a medical doctor, who's supposed to be helping us improve our health.

Unfortunately, most of us are unaware of the law suits and health warnings from the FDA and other agencies for many of the drugs we take!

Even when a drug like Avandia is taken off the market, we fail to question whether the drug we're taking will have any harmful effects on us.

But, since we feel fine and don't feel any adverse effects from taking the drug, we gladly pop the pills into our mouth -- from sunrise to sunset. In addition, because of our laziness and refusal to change our eating habits, we're happy to take a pill that we believe will cover up our bad eating habits and our poor lifestyle.

More Information About Kentucky Fried Chicken

Kentucky Fried Chicken has a new product called grilled chicken. so how many of you have bought the grilled chicken because you think it's healthier? Now, I find it hard to believe that people are really that stupid, but, KFC (like the pharmaceutical companies) do think that we're that stupid. We Do Chicken Right. Really?

KFC has a commercial where they say: "We do chicken right." Really? Really? Have you seen what a KFC chicken looks like??? Take a look at the picture below -- that's what you're putting in your mouth! That's what you're feeding your children! Some kind of mutant, deformed chicken that's full of antibiotics, growth hormones, and feces! Are you kidding me?

So, while you're trying to rationalize how to justify eating your KFC, here's some additional information that should give you pause.

Ingredients in KFC:
Maltodextrin, Bleached Wheat Flour, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean and Cottonseed Oil, Sodium Phosphate, Monosodium Glutamate (MSG),  Salt, Monosodium Glutamate, Spice, Palm Oil, Natural Flavor, Garlic Powder, Soy Sauce (Soybean, Wheat, Salt), Chicken Fat, Chicken Broth, Autolyzed Yeast Extract, Extractives of Turmeric, Dehydrated Carrot, Onion Powder, and Not More Than 2% Each of Calcium Silicate and Silicon Dioxide Added As Anticaking Agents.

Maltodextrin: The very first ingredient, which means it’s also the most abundant ingredient, is sugar! Among the many problems associated with sugar, it suppresses your immune system, promotes imbalance of intestinal flora, causes blood sugar fluctuation which can lead to diabetes, promotes weight gain, can cause neurotransmitter imbalance that leads to depression, and can even lead to addiction.

Salt: While sea salt is an essential part of good health, the refined table salt that KFC uses contains unhealthy additives, is stripped of it’s magnesium and trace minerals, and is bleached to hide the discoloration caused by the processing. Refined table salt is associated with heavy metal toxicity, Alzheimer’s disease, high blood pressure, and kidney problems.

Bleached Wheat Flour: Flour is a highly refined source of carbohydrates that causes many of the same problems as sugar.  In addition, bleached flour contains alloxan, which is known to destroy pancreatic beta cells! Can you diabetes?

Partially Hydrogenated Soybean and Cottonseed Oil: Partially hydrogenated oil (PHO) is a trans fat that clogs your arteries and damages your nerve cells! And, soy contains substances such as phytic acid and enzyme inhibitors that interfere with mineral absorption and protein digestion. It also contains phytoestrogens which mimic estrogen in the human body. In addition, a frightening amount of soy is genetically engineered and is typically sprayed with more chemicals than most other crops.

Monosodium Glutamate (MSG): This unnatural flavor enhancer is a neurotoxin that kills brain cells by overstimulating them. It’s commonly regarded as one of the most dangerous food additives in existence and is associated with Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and learning disabilities. Even the FDA acknowledges a long list of symptoms that it can cause shortly after consuming it.

Autolyzed yeast: also contains MSG.

Chicken Fat and Beef Fat: Because chemical toxins are often diverted from vital organs and stored in body fat, especially in factory farmed animals, the chicken and beef fat used by KFC is likely to be highly toxic. Deformed Kentucky Fried Chicken

The Chicken: KFC has been under fire for quite some time because of the factory farming used to produce their chicken. Undercover investigators, including investigators from PETA, have reported horrendous conditions at these farms. According to their observations, the animals were packed in warehouses with very little room to move, were completely deprived of sunlight, and were so weak and deformed that they could barely function well enough to eat and drink. There were even cases of the farm employees torturing the animals for no other purpose than their own twisted enjoyment.

Without a doubt, factory farming is bad news. If the animal cruelty isn’t enough to turn your stomach, then the poor quality of the meat should be. These animals are fed the cheapest feed available which is likely to contain toxic grain that has failed inspection for human consumption and can also contain fillers such as sawdust, newspaper, and cardboard.

They’re also typically fed antibiotics on a regular basis to compensate for the unhealthy conditions they’re forced to live in and are given hormones to accelerate their growth. Whenever you eat food that’s derived from an animal, you’re also eating what the animal ate, and this includes the pesticides, antibiotics, hormones, sawdust, newspaper and cardboard that they were fed.

Ingredients in the KFC Grilled Chicken
The KFC grilled chicken is just as bad as the fried chicken! The following is a list of the ingredients in the grilled chicken:
Fresh Chicken Marinated With Salt, Sodium Phosphate, and Monosodium Glutamate. Seasoned With: Maltodextrin, Salt, Bleached Wheat Flour, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean and Cottonseed Oil, Monosodium Glutamate, Spice, Palm Oil, Natural Flavor, Garlic Powder, Soy Sauce (Soybean, Wheat, Salt), Chicken Fat, Chicken Broth, Autolyzed Yeast Extract, Extractives of Turmeric, Dehydrated Carrot, Onion Powder, and Not More Than 2% Each of Calcium Silicate and Silicon Dioxide Added As Anticaking Agents.

Dewayne,
I just wanted to write you and say "thanks" for sharing your story which i discovered today on YouTube. Your story has inspired me to make a positive change in my lifestyle as I've lived with type 2 diabetes for the last 14 years and it really sucks. I am 43 years old and live in Canada (Vancouver). My wife is a nurse and we have 2 beautiful children, so I feel that I have a good support network to help me put a death to my diabetes once and for all!

I look forward to showing my wife your videos tonight on YouTube, and ordering your book (or eBook) this week. I will keep you posted on my progress.

Sincerely,

Paul J. Garay

Hi,

Yes the info on RSD was indeed helpful. I thought the program might help but your confirmation makes me more confidant in trying this for the RSD. The color of my arms is less blue than before. I have more energy, less tired, and the pain went down to a 5 on the pain scale of 1-10. However with change in the weather to rain and lower temps I went into a flare which is normal for my RSD. I think it will take time and commitment for this to work. I look forward to the future weeks. I'll be adding evening primose oil hopefully next week, I read the recommendation for it in D2D for diabetic neuropathy.

Thanks,

Gladys

Hi DaWayne,
Thank you for your counsel last week ...

I actually received my book ...Well, I can't put it down! ... It's just like you talking...on & on & on..

There is so much life in this book!

Yeah-there's work ahead but knowing that my latter days will be better/greater is healing. By the way, my initial questions were immediately answered with the "dawn effect" section in your book.

I must say also that the Leviticus scripture is most powerful..

Continue to birth what God has given you.

Mr McCulley's book is a great book simply because it actually works!

I've read a lot of diabetes books -- this was the first one that actually worked!

This book is a must-read for all diabetics and non-diabetics, and, yes even doctors. :-)

After reading so many books on diabetes, I thought that most of the diabetes books out there were a waste of money. Until a friend of a friend recommended this book about 2 years ago.

At that time my husband was facing insulin shots because the metformin wasn't working anymore after his doctor increased his dosage and added another diabetic drug.

My husband didn't want to go on the shots, so he was willing to try anything if it would delay going on the shots. Within 3 weeks, my husband's fasting BS returned to an average of 101 (from the low 200s). Within another 3-4 weeks his post-meal BS reduced to 110 (from a previous average of 170). So his doctor delayed putting him on insulin.

By the 3rd month he lost 37 pounds and also lowered his blood pressure -- his doctor was shocked but encouraged me to continue with my meal planning (which was based on the Death to Diabetes diet program). His doctor reduced my husband's blood pressure and diabetic meds.

After about a year, after a complete physical, my husband's doctor told him he could temporarily stop taking the diabetic meds and the blood pressure drugs. When he returned for his 6-month check-up, his doctor said his blood work was excellent: 89 BS, 4.9 A1C, 115/85 BP!!

The bonus for me was that during this time because I was eating what my husband ate, I lost 22 pounds! and I've never felt so full of energy! So I recommend this book to non-diabetics as well as diabetics.

p.s. Can you tell us when will Mr. McCulley be coming to our city to speak?

Sincerely,

Jen

Dear DeWayne,
I am glad to report that my HbA1C is now around 6 without any diabetic medication. Thanks for your guidance through the Death To Diabetes book that I had purchased. I am working towards bringing the HbA1C to around 5 in the next month or two.

Please find attached a recent news article that says there are more than 50 million diabetics in India and number will increase sharply in the coming years.

Your book could be of great use to the type 2 diabetics in India. I wanted to explore being your affiliate in India to promote your book here, and even get it translated to a few Indian languages (there are more than 20 major languages in India).

Do let me know your thoughts. We could even have a scheduled telephonic talk.

With best regards

We would like to set up a series of appointments to talk with you.

We would like a recommendation for a water filter. Would you please send us your recommendation?

We are currently drinking bottled LeBleu water, which I think is the very best of the bottled waters. I would like to be using filtered water for cooking.

Thanks to Mr. MCulley and his kind caring staff . It means soo much. Tell Mr. McCulley he can consider it done. I will be glad to enter those comments on Amazon.

My blog will be about my journey to wellness and other women's issues. My belief is that there should be an underground wellness movement to heal ourselves. I'm glad the doctors are there but they are falling short on our healthcare in a lot of areas and I don't think we should rely on them wholeheartedly without question..because sadly, healthcare in this country is motivated by money more than saving lives.

I can send the link when I'm finished so he can review it..Mr. McCulley is a genious and more people need to know about him. If I hadn't purchased his book I'd still be shooting myself in the stomach with Lantus and slowly rotting away..

I am also a System engineer (Electrical). Two years ago I bought and read your book Death to Diabetes and have been able to maintain my a1C at 5.5 without any meds.

I did a bunch of research, read books like Good Calories, Bad Calories, Reversing Diabetes, etc. and in the process saw your book on AMAZON as one of their other recommendations. The feedback there from readers convinced me to buy the book.

I was taking Glimepride for over two years, but stopped taking meds immediately. I would measure my Sugar levels (SL) and for the first two weeks was exercising 3-4 times a day. I have hiked a mtn where you gain 800' in 2 miles almost every day since 1995 and worked out with weights 4 times a week, but still had higher SLs. I found measuring 2 hours after eating provided me the best insights to how my body was processing food into sugars. And I would often workout to get my SL below 110 before I would go to bed at night.

I have found Vanadium to be very effective at helping me keep my SLs below 110 two after I eat.

Thanks!

Terry

Hi Ian. Just found your blog & good on you! Just wanted to tell freakmod that he should get his/her hands on a book called "Death to Diabetes" by a bloke called DeWayne McCulley. Google it - he has a web site otherwise grab a copy from ebay or anywhere else you can get your hands on it. He probably isn't as strict as Raw for 30 days but he is on the same track and gives excellent detailed information. Hope this helps - it certainly did for me

Hi, Pats readings are between 87 and 140 now! Mostly between 95-120. They were between 145-210 average 160-180 before he started your program. He has been very strong about sticking to what he should do. He has Brussels, brocolli and eggs in the morning with total greens. Salad and nuts during the day. And salmon and vegies or soup at dinner. He's reading the book and very excited. He tells everyone that I have helped to save his life along with your program. He's not angry with me at all. He was very ready to get his health back. He writes everything down that he does, He tried the club soda once and it didn't seem to affect his readings. When he works out, which he does almost every day is the only time that his reading gets over 120, and then it goes back down by his nightly reading. His readings are now finally lower in the morning. So I guess no more Dawns phenomanem. THANK-YOU SO MUCH!!!

We have always had great vitamins from our herbalist. He takes very high quality vitamins. We are open to suggestions on blood stabilizing vitamins, He takes coQ10, hawthorne, Vit. E, D-3, Biotin, Red Yeast Rice, Resveratrol, vanadyl sulfate, Vanadium with chromium, Cinnamon, from Now, Healthy originals, Planetary herbals, Source naturals, natures purest, atri-vana. Also He takes Reliv classic and A mix from our herbalist for blood sugar of fresh herbs that he mixes in a glass of water, He drinks herbal teas now also.

We still need to start doing cleanses, He did one kidney cleanse. And we need to get the juicer out and get started.

Thank-you so much for caring

Quite a while back you had a man on who had written "Death to Diabetes". Because of that, a friend of mine who was having a horrible time with her blood sugar, now has normal blood sugar levels. The Dr. had put her on insulin and it was aweful for her. If I hadn't heard him, I would not have known about the book to tell her about it.

We just never know how our words and/or actions might affect another. You probably added years to her life.

Comments : I bought your book a couple of weeks ago. The first thing I did was cut out the dead and processed foods. The second thing I did was eat brussel sprouts until they were coming out of my ears. For the first time in years I feel good. I wasn't a full blown diabetic, but I felt like crap most of the time. My hands and feet have regained some of the lost sensation that I had been suffering with. Also, my whole body inflammation seems to have quieted down. Thank God you wrote this book. You have truly changed my life.

Dear Mr. McCulley,
You've helped me so much through your book and CD'S and DVD'S I just had to tell you. I'll be 60 in December, and for 27 years I've been permanently disabled, 25years in a wheelchair. Your meal plan has helped me cut way down on the use of insulin. And I've lost over 30 lbs since your teleseminar in April.

I cannot move around much due to another neurological disorder. When I tell the doctor, he say's that's nice but doesn't change my prescription for the insulin. He knows I know how to cut back, so I'm sure he's not worried. Maybe he doesn't think I'll stick to it. I have no cravings, and I'm not hungry. That's a first for my lifetime.

Also I can look at a yummy chocolate cream filled donut--from Dunkin Donuts, and I used to eat 3 of them and still be hungry, now I can say no, thank you and mean it. We have a coffee hour in the community room on Sunday Mornings. Dunkin Donuts donates 2 dozen donuts for us and Publix Supermarkets donates day old bread and goodies. the leftovers are used for Tuesday morning blood pressure check--that's when I see the stuff and can say NO.

I want to send Dr. Phil and e-mail about you and your book, and how it has helped me, even though I cannot exercise. Is it o.k. with you? I think you could help a lot of people out there who watch his program who are diabetics who cannot exercise much. I know until I heard about you I was getting near the morbidly obese line and still gaining. I'm eating more of the right kinds of foods now than I was. I didn't think canned goods and frozen dinners would hurt and make me still gain weight. If Dr. Phil is interested I'll give the credit to you and tell a little about your book, and give the info. how to contact you for purchasing your book. Please let me know. Sincerely,

Kathy

Good Evening DeWayne,

How are you? Hopefully my note finds that all continues to be well with you and your family. Many thanks for your kind note! By the way, I thought you'd like to know that as a result of interviewing you, reading your book, and continuing to modify my diet - I lost weight without really trying. Adding more green vegetables, adding garlic, sweet basel, fruits (strawberries, grapes), salads to my diet together with abstaining from my 1/2 gallon of ice cream routine and some exercise did the trick. I didn't realize how much weight I had lost until people starting walking up to me and saying, "W-O-W! You really lost a lot of weight!" I'm not trying to lose weight -- I'm just trying to keep the arteries to my heart and brain UNCLOGGED!

Thanks for everything!

Here's to your continued success!

Best regards,

Hi,
I have something that I just wanted to share with you.

I just received an email from a person on a (diabetes) website forum that I joined. I told her about the book “Death to Diabetes” about a week and a half ago and this was her reply below.

Hi,
Today is my birthday and I am reading my birthday present Death to Diabetes. I am happy to say that so far I am doing everything right, but I will continue reading so I will be sure I can improve on everything. Thank you for telling me about this book.

I too, was brought to the hospital 8 months ago with a B. S. reading of over 900, fortunate for me my daughter noticed and took action. In the last 9 months I am happy to say I rarely have to take insulin during the day and have lowered my intake of Lantus at bedtime from 144 units to now 50. With the help of this book I am determined to use even less and although my doctor says I will always have to use insulin, she could definitely be wrong.

Thanks again,

Jacq

Have a HAPPY NEW YEAR

AND A HEALTHY ONE ALSO.

I am so happy to be able to tell others about this great book! I also just received your Live DVD which is just as great.

I would also like to share maybe an option concerning the program as you requested others to share their options. I was wondering if Mr. McCulley would ever consider writing a Super Meals Cookbook that contains recipes of his super meals. Also to have an online affiliate program in order for others to sell his book and help spread the word.

Please let me know what you think.

God Bless,

Carol North

Hi DeWayne, Nov 29, 2007

Just finished reading your book – great work!

In February, knowing nothing about diabetes, I decided to start advocating for a diabetic friend of the family, and invested 1-3 hours/day for 8 months in self-education and in communicating and in maintaining logging documents for this 40-yr-old type-1. I also developed charts and analyses. I had accessed about 50 books on diabetes, only the following 5 of which I have read in their entirety.

The Diabetes Diet by Richard Bernstein, M.D. (engineer turned doctor, type-1)

Cheating Destiny by James Hirsch (journalist, type-1 with 5-yr-old son, type-1)

Dr. Neal Barnard's Program for Reversing Diabetes by same & Bryanna Grogan

Dr. Bernstein’s Diabetes Solution by same.

Death to Diabetes by DeWayne McCulley (engineer, former type-2)

The following is my way of saying thank you for the work that you have done which will be most beneficial to me and to others I know:

1. I plan to provide you, within a week, a 4-5 page critique of your book that I feel might contribute to enhancement of any upcoming edition.

2. I plan to post, within a month, a very positive 1000-word review of your book on Amazon.com which will not include any material from the critique.

3. Since raw foods comprise a significant component of your protocols, I am offering you access to Jenna Norwood’s, raw foods documentary and raw food preparation tv segments, http://www.superchargeme.com/ Jenna. My daughter, Jenna, would be most pleased to hear from you. And if you might be doing a workshop in Sarasota Florida, do ask about her raw foods café.

Many thanks,

Dear Mr. McCulley,
Was on amazon.com the other day looking for diabetic cookbooks and happened along your book. Was intrigued by the cover and title, so read further. Decided after reading a little bit of the contents and being impressed by what your reviewers had to say, that it could do me no harm to purchase it. Got the book yesterday and am about 85 pages into the book and am amazed by some of the things I have learned. Had to go food shopping a little while ago, so skipped over to the Super Meal Models in chapter 17 in order to purchase "live" instead of "dead" foods!!

I am a 57 year old female who was diagnosed with diabetes in 2004. Went on meds and stopped eating white sugar and flour immediately. Dropped a few pounds and kept my BG somewhat normal. After about 2 years of "behaving", I decided I was tired of testing and behaving, so started pretending a wasn't a diabetic anymore. Continued taking my meds, but other than that, lived my life as I had previous to my diagnosis. This past June my eyes were starting to get blurry and I knew damn well what it was from. Went to the doctor, had a complete blood work up. Fasting BG was 206. A1C was 8.6. Not too good, huh? Doctor put me on Byetta, in addition to the Actos I've already been taking. BG has come down, but not a whole heck of a lot.

During the next week or two I will be changing my diet to be the same as what has worked for you. I pray that it will work for me too.

I'm so glad that God led you down the path He did. I've been praying for an answer of how to tackle diabetes, and you may have answered my prayers.

Thank you and Blessings!

DeWayne-Amazing! I attended your talk at the Nikken meeting last Saturday as a guest. Your presentation was awesome-absolutely right on target scientifically, and a real wake-up call! Accurate, humorous, personal, with a little ethnicity tossed in for good measure. I appreciate that you've taken this on as your mission, educating those at such high risk. Your heart is in the right place.

I'd like to bring my parents to your session at St. Mary's Hospital. I'd like all my patients to hear it. Do you deliver the same talk? Does it vary week to week? You need an infomercial, man!

Dwayne,
Thank you, thank you, thank you...for all your research in such a short
period of time. Yes, this is a tricky one to address. Honestly, when I was
first diagnosed, it was back in 1998. An asthma attack arose after not
having an attack for your many years. I want to the Dr.'s they X-rayed the
chest/lung area and voila, they discovered abnormal sized lungs (glands). I
believe all things happen for a reason.

Truly, thank God, I have not had any problems with shortness of breath or
respiratory concerns. I do excercise (jog) 3 - 4x per week. My PC and/or
respiratory Dr. were seeing me every six months. However, the respiratory
Dr. told tme hat as long as I am feeling good and there is no change, and I
don't feel the need to see him as frequently, that he would leave it up to
me with reference to scheduling.

The only reason that I have been taken Playqenill (1st) and methotrexate
(2nd) is because of the fibrous tissue around the nostril and puffyness in
the corners of the eyes. As bad it it may sound, when you start seeing
things on your face that have not been there before, you (I) get a little
concerned as well as self-conscious.

I left a message on your voicemail, would you like me respond to your
questions via e-mail or would you like to have a phone coversation. I'll be
in this evening after 9:00 p.m. or tomorrow after 6:00 p.m.

Thanks again, Carol

Dear Dewayne,
Thank you for the timely information on diabetes. My husband, Mike, and I
are so appreciative for the phone time you gave, as well, answering my many
questions. Alas, the questions keep coming and I eagerly await the
publication of your book!

Mike stopped drinking coffee on Sunday and he was pretty miserable for the
following 2 days. Habits die hard. We, also, implemented the super meal concept.
He's dropped a couple pounds as a result and is down to 198. (he was 225lbs in Jan)
We started testing Mike's blood glucose yesterday. I can already see this
is an invaluable tool. Interestingly, last night he ate a late dinner after exercise
and his glucose was 111 before bed.

Today it shot up to 140 after a snack of raw cashews and an apple but was
down to 126 after dinner.

I understand we want those numbers under 120. How troublesome are today's
higher numbers I wonder?

The dietary plan you've outlined seems similar to Atkins. Now that you're
cured, can you break from the strict plan on occasion? If so, how often?

Is a little vinegar permissible with the olive oil for a homemade salad dressing?

Again, thank you for your kind assistance.

Gratefully,
Pattie
