Natural Remedies Flu Prevention Treatment Top 10 Super Foods for Immune System

Flu Vaccine, Prevention & Treatment and the Top 10 Super Foods for Immune System - [Today's Topic from DeWayne McCulley & the Death to Diabetes Office]

During the winter season, we always receive a lot of questions from our students and diabetic clients concerning whether they should get the flu shot. But, this year, we have been swamped with phone calls, Skype calls, emails, letters, office visits, etc. about what people should do given that the flu continues to ravage the country.
[Ref: http://bit.ly/1-2018-flu-widespread]

𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗟𝗗 𝗜 𝗚𝗘𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗙𝗟𝗨 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗧?
That's the Number 1 question that we are asked every year. And, every year, we tell our students and diabetic clients the same thing: Whether you get the flu shot or not is a personal choice. And, that personal choice should be based on an understanding of the immune system and how the flu shot actually affects your immune system.

Unfortunately, what we have discovered over the past several years is that most people really don't understand how their immune system works and how the flu vaccine affects their immune system. As a result, most people choose (or not choose) to get the flu shot for the wrong reasons.

We have chosen not to get the flu shot for 4 reasons:
(𝟭) 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗼ds: There are proven super foods and other natural safe methods to STRENGTHEN the immune system in order to slow down, deactivate and/or kill the flu virus. Over the years, drug-based solutions have proven not to be as safe or effective.
(𝟮) 𝗜𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗿𝘂𝗴𝘀: Prescription drugs actually 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗻 the immune system, which makes the body more susceptible to the flu virus.
(𝟯) 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗙𝗹𝘂 𝗩𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲: More specifically, the flu vaccine also weakens the immune system. This is due to the vaccine over-activating the humoral (antibody) portion of the immune system while creating a weak cellular immune response from the very immune cells that are designed to kill the virus! e.g. macrophages, NK cells.
(𝟰) 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 (𝗩𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆): Based on the structure of the flu virion, it has two mutating proteins that make the flu vaccine ineffective. In addition, the injection of the flu vaccine directly into the upper arm bypasses two-thirds of the immune system, creating an imbalanced immune response!

FYI: Science actually shows us how the flu virus is structured, how it works, and, how it mutates. Based on that, it's almost impossible for the flu vaccine to be manufactured with the right viral strain! In fact, the CDC confirms that the flu vaccine is mostly ineffective due to the flu virus's mutating capability.
Using science to understand how the flu virus uses our own cells to replicate and spread inside our bodies is very empowering. Why? Because that same science provides insights into the weaknesses of the virus and how to strengthen your immune system to take advantage of those weaknesses. By doing that, you can direct your immune system to slow down, deactivate, and kill the virus.

The CDC and the pharmaceutical companies want us to trust in the science of pharmacology but they refuse to even look at the science of nutrition, foods, herbs and natural compounds. Why? Because you can't patent a food or make any money telling people to eat garlic. :-)

So, instead of me telling you what to do, I will share what we discuss in my flu class including how the immune system works, how the flu virus attacks you, and what the flu vaccine does and does not do. And, more importantly, I will explain how various super foods and other natural remedies can strengthen your immune system to slow down/kill the virus and prevent you from becoming a victim of the virus.

And, even if you should get the flu, there is no need to panic -- we will show you how to shorten the duration and lessen the severity of the virus. Then, and only then, will you be able to make an informed decision about whether you and your family members should get the flu vaccine.

We'll get into this in more detail shortly, but, in a nutshell, you must STRENGTHEN your immune system. Whether you get the flu shot or not is a mute point. Either way, you still have to strengthen your immune system. I know that I sound like a broken record, but, this cannot be emphasized enough. A bunch of drugs, antibiotics, pain relievers, fever reducers, vaccines, steroids, antivirals, aspirins, etc. aren't going to help you! In fact, too many of the wrong drugs will actually weaken your immune system and make matters worse!

Before we get started, let me just say that there are a multitude of foods, herbs and compounds with ANTIVIRAL properties and a proven track record that can help you strengthen your immune system. Some examples include: homemade chicken soup with garlic, broth, echinacea, hot herbal tea with raw honey, ginger and turmeric; elderberry syrup or tea, coconut water, Vitamin D, Vitamin C, and zinc.

Bottom-line: Eating foods, herbs and compounds with antiviral properties is critical to being able to kill and destroy the flu virus.

Use the instructions on the PowerPoint slide (attached) as a guide. For more details, go to our website page about flu prevention and natural remedies.

Natural Remedies to Prevent and Fight the Flu

𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗜𝗣𝗦: If you don't have the flu, but, you feel a "tickle" in your throat or you feel a slight chill, that's the flu virus latching onto your nasal and trachea epithelial cells! Here are some killer tonics that really work to kill the virus before it takes hold and spreads. [Ref: http://bit.ly/flu-warning-tips]
1. Quickly gargle with a glass of warm water and sea salt every hour for the next 3-4 hours. The flu virus hates salt! :-)
2. Another option is to gargle with warm water and lemon and raw honey.
3. If you can stand it, bite down on 2-3 cloves of raw garlic (to release the allicin) and swallow them. If you have a garlic press, that's even better! Garlic kills the buggers on contact!
4. Take 1-2 teaspoons of organic black elderberry syrup (to increase macrophage/cytokine activity (i.e. TNF-α) and deactivate the flu virion's HA & NA protein spikes which the virus uses to attack and enter your cells)
5. Take 1 tsp. unprocessed cod liver oil (for the Vitamin D and Omega-3s).
6. Still, another option is to gargle with organic apple cider vinegar.
7. Use herbal spray/nebulizer with saline/herbal solution or colloidal silver to help your nasal immune cells.
Over the years, we have found this "quick-hit" strategy along with the other natural remedies on our flu web page to be very powerful, effective and long-lasting against all strains of the flu. [Ref: http://bit.ly/dtd-natural-remedies]

𝗖𝗗𝗖'𝘀 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗙𝗟𝗨:
The CDC and the medical industry recommend that you get the flu vaccine and take various medications to fight the flu. The CDC and most medical doctors believe that people with diabetes should get the flu shot because they have weakened immune systems. Despite evidence to the contrary, the CDC and the pharmaceutical/medical industries truly believe this so much that they continue to increase their advertising and marketing campaigns to encourage more and more people to get the flu shot -- including babies!, children, pregnant women, people with egg allergies!, diabetics, and senior people.

According to the CDC, because all of these people have weakened or compromised immune systems, they need the flu vaccine. And, since the flu vaccine appears to help the immune system produce antibodies to prevent the flu, it appears to make sense that most people should get the flu shot ... Well, if you believe that, I've got a bridge to sell you. :-)

Before I get into flu prevention, natural remedies and the top 10 super foods for strengthening the immune system and killing the flu, I thought that I would share with you what's been happening in our training classes during the past several years concerning the flu vaccine controversy.

Thanks to many of you, over the past several years, our training classes have grown tremendously because of word-of-mouth, my book (Death to Diabetes), and because so many companies were losing money because of the increase in employee absences and hospital stays due to diabetes and the flu.
Several years ago, four smaller companies and groups within those companies had gotten together to hold an internal company health fair event. During that time, most of these companies had funded us and several other health groups and insurance companies to come in and speak about healthcare, diabetes, and the flu -- usually during the September to early December timeframe.

About 4 years later, each of these companies had noticed a tremendous decrease in their employee absences and improvements in their health, based on their employees' medical reports. They also noticed that absences and hospital visits during the flu season had gone to almost zero, which was unheard of for people with diabetes. There was also an improvement with non-diabetics who had attended our classes.

Years earlier, many of our students and diabetic clients had started out getting the flu vaccine. But, each year some of our students and diabetic clients who got the flu shot were having adverse reactions or got the flu. However, most of the students and diabetic clients who didn't get the flu vaccine did not catch the flu.

I realize that this is a limited sample, but, it affected enough people such that some of the people who had gotten the flu vaccine decided to change their diet and NOT get the flu shot to see if it would make a difference. And, it did!
As a result, we started to get more students who were non-diabetics, which made our training a little more difficult. Also, there was a lot of confusion, anger and anxiety with the employees who were being encouraged to get the flu shot. As it turned out, some of the employees that we had trained had husbands, wives, and relatives who had not attended our training, so there was a lot of arguing going on within families concerning whether to get the flu vaccine.

We had to expand our normal training from 1 hour to 2 hours and over the years it has expanded to 4 hours, because a lot of the non-diabetics didn't know anything about our diabetes wellness program. Fortunately, the companies pitched in and bought a truckload of my "Death to Diabetes" books for their non-diabetic employees. (yay!) :-)

So, here we are, several years later ... The reps from some of the healthcare companies, insurance companies, and some of the medical people have admitted to me that they are amazed and impressed that people are doing so well without getting the flu shot! They admitted to me that they thought I got lucky during the first couple years. They didn't expect the good fortune of the employees' health would last this long. Ironically, some of the medical personnel ended up getting the flu and decided later to sign up for some of our classes during the past three years. Now, some of them are trying to avoid getting the flu shot. But, some of them told me that they may have to get the flu shot to keep their job! What?? :-O Is this still America??

FYI: Over the years, I had made a conscious decision 𝘯𝘰𝘵 to argue with the companies' medical personnel about the flu vaccine. Instead I decided to focus on science and education and allow the results speak to the effectiveness of our program. I had also agreed to reimburse them if the program didn't help them with their health. They loved that! :-)

Needless to say, the medical and healthcare personnel learned a lot about the immune system and how the flu vaccine actually affects the immune system at the cellular level. Now that they know how the flu vaccine actually affects the immune system (and other systems), some of them admitted to me that they don't know what to do without risking their own jobs. (I believe that I have a solution for all of this -- a win-win for everyone -- more about that later).

But, I must admit that some of them were really angry with me and wouldn't accept what I was telling them even though they agreed with my explanation of the science behind the pathophysiology and pathogenesis of the flu virus at the cellular level. (I'll discuss that in more detail in a future post for those of you who just love science :-)).

𝗦𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗯𝗮𝗿: I was really surprised with the amount of anger and frustration among family members and friends about the flu vaccine. Interestingly, both sides were using points of view that had nothing to do with science! They thought their points of view were based on science but it was information that they had learned over the years from TV, their doctors, newspapers, the Internet, etc. I've also seen the same thing on social media. But, it's worse there because misinformation spreads just a like a virus (pun intended). I've noticed the anger and frustration has escalated into rudeness and personal attacks in this negatively-charged environment that we live in -- primarily, due to people's ignorance, fear, ego, envy and hidden agendas. Ironically, if you're diabetic, this anger and frustration will only raise your blood glucose and worsen your health!
--------------------------------------------------------------------
𝗞𝗘𝗬 𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗦:
Of course, it would be impossible for me to explain the details of a 4-hour training program about influenza and the flu virus in a Facebook post, especially without the 57 PowerPoint slides! [I love PowerPoint] :-)
So, I will touch on about 10% of the content and key points. (I'm telling you this upfront just in case somebody over-reacts to my post). :-) ------------------------------------------------------------------
𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝟭 [𝗜𝗠𝗠𝗨𝗡𝗘 𝗦𝗬𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗠 𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗨𝗖𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘]: The immune system consists of 2 major subsystems where one of the subsystems consists of two parts. More specifically, as depicted in our Immune System Architecture diagram [Ref: http://bit.ly/dtd-immune-system], the immune system consists of two subsystems: the Innate Immunity System (yellow box) and the Adaptive Immunity System (green & blue boxes). Also, the Adaptive Immunity System supports two types of immunity: cell-mediated (green box) immunity and antibody-mediated (blue box) immunity.
Why should this be of any importance to you? Because the flu vaccine bypasses the natural innate immunity system (yellow box), which has the cells that kill the virus! Look at the cells in the yellow box -- most of those cells are killers. The flu vaccine triggers the antibody-mediated immunity system (blue box), which produces antibodies and provides a strong Th2 antibody immune response. But, it also provides a WEAK Th1 cellular immune response. This strong Th2 response in combination with a weak Th1 response creates an imbalance that prevents the Th1 system from killing the virus. Oh, by the way, a strong Th1 immune response would give us close to permanent immunity without the side effects of allergies, asthma, eczema, etc. Plus, there would be no need to have to get a flu shot every year anymore! :-O Your innate immune system will activate the antibody portion (blue box) of your immune system to produce the necessary antibodies.
Now, some of you may be thinking that I'm implying some kind of conspiracy here. No, I'm not. Actually, there is a reasonable explanation why the vaccine was designed this way. Years ago when they first started designing the flu vaccine, it was based on previous vaccines. Also, back then, virologists and other scientists were unaware of the architectural structure of the immune system. Although they understand it now (to some degree), back then, they looked at the immune system as one huge system of organs, tissues and cells spread throughout the human body. They did not realize that there were three distinct parts, including a Th1-Th2 infrastructure that keeps the immune system in balance and allows the immune system to provide an optimum immune response, depending on the type of pathogen or toxin.
------------------------------------------------------------------
𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝟮 [𝗜𝗡𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗜𝗠𝗠𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗬]: Under normal circumstances, a virus (or any pathogen) enters the body via the eyes, nose or mouth -- not through your arm and bloodstream like the flu vaccine. When the virus enters your nose, the epithelial cells in the nasal passageways release cytokines (signals), which activate immune cells in the Innate Immune System. These immune cells include macrophages, which eat and digest the pathogens via a process called phagocytosis; and, natural killer (NK) cells, which inject an enzyme into the virus to break it down and kill it via a process called lysis.
If the immune cells need help, the macrophages send out signals (cytokines) to recruit additional immune cells, some of which activate the cell-mediated and/or the antibody-mediated immunity system.
Here is a simple flowchart that shows how the flu develops in your body:
http://bit.ly/flu-flowchart
If you're into the science, here is a functional flow diagram of how the flu virus attacks your body and how the immune cells fight back to kill the virus (at the cellular level):
http://bit.ly/flu-pathogenesis-diagram
------------------------------------------------------------------
𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝟯𝗮 [𝗙𝗟𝗨 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗧 𝗘𝗙𝗙𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗦]: However, since the flu shot is injected directly into the bloodstream, it bypasses the Innate Immune System's first line of defense and the cell-mediated portion of the Adaptive Immune System. In other words, the flu shot initially bypasses almost two-thirds of the immune system! This prevents the Innate Immune System from "learning" about the viruses and building a natural immune response.
The flu vaccine uses adjuvants, which are substances that are added to a vaccine to increase the body's immune response to the vaccine. These adjuvants create a strong Th2 immune response, which produces the antibodies to fight the virus. However, the adjuvants create a WEAK Th1 response, which limits the activation of the immune cells that eat and kill the virus, e.g. macrophages, natural killer (NK) cells, cytotoxic T killers, etc. Even the CDC is in agreement with this and why the flu vaccine is so ineffective most years.
Now, you may be asking why should this mean anything to you? It should because the vaccine provides a TEMPORARY antigen-specific immunity via the Th2 pathway that requires that you get a new flu vaccine next year because the virus will have mutated again! If the vaccine were redesigned to activate the innate immune system (via the Th1 pathway), it would give us close to PERMANENT immunity via the killer cells (macrophages and natural killer cells) and there would be no need to keep getting re-vaccinated every year!
Here are a couple websites that explain the Th1-Th2 response in more detail:
http://bit.ly/vaccine-th1-th2-impact
http://bit.ly/vaccine-th1-th2
So, why is the vaccine designed this way? It was partially due to ignorance. The virologists and scientists didn't really understand the structure of the immune system back then.
p.s. To make matters worse, a Th2-dominant vaccine makes us more susceptible to other illnesses such as allergies, asthma, eczema, etc. as well as more serious diseases such as cancer, tuberculosis, pneumonia, etc.
------------------------------------------------------------------
𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝟯𝗯 [𝗙𝗟𝗨 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗧 𝗘𝗙𝗙𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗦]: According to the CDC, the effectiveness of the flu vaccine ranges from 10% to 47% -- that's less than 50% effective! Here is a link where the CDC spokesperson agreed that this year's flu vaccine is not that effective and that we need better flu vaccines. But, then, he says that everyone should still get the flu shot! What? Why is there so much conflicting information? Just follow the money and you'll understand ... :-)
[Ref: http://bit.ly/CDC-vaccine]
------------------------------------------------------------------
𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝟯c [𝗙𝗟𝗨 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗧 𝗘𝗙𝗙𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗦]: Just to be clear about those percentages from the CDC, that percentage of effectiveness does not mean it's the percentage of effectiveness against getting the flu. It does not mean that 47% of the people who got the flu vaccine didn't catch the flu. It means that 47% of the people who got the flu vaccine were successful in creating antibodies, based on the strain mix in the vaccine!
But, since the strain mix in the vaccine is usually the wrong strain, that means the real success rate is closer to 0%! :-O
According to the latest report from the CDC about the 2017 flu vaccine, the flu virus is widespread across the United States: "Flu is everywhere in the US right now," said Dr. Dan Jernigan, director of the CDC's influenza branch. "This is the first year we've had the entire continental US at the same level (of flu activity) at the same time." It has been an early flu season that seems to be peaking now, he said, with a 5.8% increase in laboratory-confirmed cases this week over last.
http://bit.ly/cnn-flu-overwhelms-us
𝗖𝗨𝗥𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗦 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟳/𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟴 𝗙𝗟𝗨 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗦:
As of January 2018, this year's flu virus is affecting an increasing number of people nationwide with reports of multiple strains of H1N1 and especially H3N2. This is another indication of the ineffectiveness of the flu vaccine.
[Ref: http://bit.ly/1-2018-flu-widespread]
Here is a January 2018 report about the virulence and spread of the H3N2 strain and the ineffectiveness of the flu vaccine being anywhere from 10% to 39%: http://bit.ly/2018-flu-H3N2
------------------------------------------------------------------
𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝟰 [𝗙𝗟𝗨 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗧 𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗥𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦]: Some of the ingredients in the flu vaccine have been identified as toxins that may be harmful to one's health. Besides the flu strains, these ingredients include thimerosal (mercury compound), formaldehyde, aluminum salts, chicken egg proteins, antibiotics, and detergent.
[Ref: http://bit.ly/flu-vaccine-ingredients]
[Ref: http://bit.ly/nnews-flu-vaccine-ingred]
However, according to the CDC, these amounts are small enough such that they should not be considered dangerous.
𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: OK, let's assume that the amounts of these toxins are too small to harm us. Let me ask you a simple question: Would you swallow a ½ drop of arsenic since the amount is too small to harm your body?
------------------------------------------------------------------
𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝟱𝗮 [𝗙𝗟𝗨 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗧 𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗥𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦]: According to clinical studies and reports, there are many side effects and injuries because of the flu vaccine and other vaccines, e.g. allergies, autism, Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), other autoimmune diseases, paralysis, peripheral neuropathy, rheumatoid arthritis, seizures, skin rashes. Even the CDC admits to some of these side effects! [Ref: http://bit.ly/cdc-flu-vaccine-side-effects]
According to multiple studies, flu vaccines account for more vaccine injuries and deaths than any other vaccine! Although the CDC denies this level of severity, all you have to do is just read the consent form that you have to sign before getting the flu shot. A typical consent form tells you that you "release the Company and any other organizations associated with the administration of this flu vaccine from any and all liability arising from or connected with this vaccination." [Ref: http://bit.ly/flu-shot-consent-form]
Vaccines are the only products in the U.S. that do not have liability. You cannot sue for injuries or death. But that is only in the U.S. Around the world, there are lawsuits because of serious injuries and deaths from vaccines such as the flu vaccine and the HPV vaccine (Gardasil). The flu vaccine was taken off the market for under five in Australia after deaths and injuries. Prevnar, a pneumococcal vaccine, was banned in China. Pfizer’s vaccination program was kicked out of the country. France just pulled Rotavirus off their schedule after infant deaths and injuries. [Ref: http://bit.ly/hpv-vaccine-gardasil-deaths]
So, you can begin to see why you have to sign away any liability given the increasing injuries and side effects from the flu vaccine. If you find this difficult to believe, just read some of the CDC reports and the vaccine injury reports on their own website.
------------------------------------------------------------------
𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝟱b [𝗙𝗟𝗨 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗧 𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗥𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦]: Years ago, several of our students and some diabetic clients had pointed out that they had never had a bad reaction from getting the flu shot, so they kept getting the flu shot.
Well, three years later, some of them and their children were having health problems that they had never experienced before! e.g. allergies, chronic fatigue, autoimmune dysfunction, muscle coordination problems, etc.
Sidebar: Interestingly, over the years, some of our students who were pro-vaxxers became anti-vaxxers; and, some who were anti-vaxxers became pro-vaxxers. In every case (except one), the change was due to a perceived vaccine-related injury ...
------------------------------------------------------------------
𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝟱𝗰 [𝗙𝗟𝗨 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗧 𝗦𝗜𝗗𝗘 𝗘𝗙𝗙𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗦]: Several years ago, some of our other students and diabetic clients told us that they got the flu shot to protect other family members. But, it didn't work -- family members ended up with the flu, but, their doctors didn't know why.
Also, some of the students who got the flu shot one year and didn't the next year thought that the flu shot would still work the next year because it worked the previous year. They didn't realize it was their immune system that saved them, not the flu shot from the previous year!
These are just a couple of the many examples demonstrating why people need to understand how the immune system works! When a family member gets the flu shot, it doesn't protect other family members! In fact, most people who get the flu shot may actually be contagious for 1 to 2 days! And, if you don't get the flu, it's your immune system that protected you, not the flu shot!
Now, to be fair, not getting the flu shot can be just as dangerous as getting the flu shot -- especially if you have a weak or compromised immune system or if you don't know how to treat the flu with natural antivirals. Here is a sad story of a young college girl, who did not get the flu shot and died from the flu. Unfortunately, no one knew how to help her because they didn't know that there are natural antivirals with proven track records. http://bit.ly/cnn-died-no-flu-shot
These stories are disheartening because there is no need for people to die just because they don't have the right information! How can we help people? Any constructive suggestions?
------------------------------------------------------------------
𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝟱𝗱 [𝗙𝗟𝗨 𝗩𝗔𝗖𝗖𝗜𝗡𝗘 𝗜𝗡𝗝𝗨𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗦, 𝗟𝗔𝗪𝗦𝗨𝗜𝗧𝗦 &𝗮𝗺𝗽; 𝗣𝗔𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗧𝗦]:
"I'm not a lawyer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night." :-)
My areas of expertise are engineering and science, so I tend to stay away from any legal issues associated with the healthcare industry. As an engineer, I don't believe that you can draw a direct causal relationship between the increase in vaccine-related lawsuits and vaccines being the root cause.
However, I must admit that it is becoming a little disconcerting with the increase in vaccine-related lawsuits and the number of vaccine injuries and deaths. Even if only 10% of these lawsuits are legitimately tied to vaccines, that's still too many vaccine injuries and deaths!
Given my limited understanding of the legal side of this, here is what I uncovered with some very limited research. (Actually, all I did was google "National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act"). But, here is part of what I found [Ref: http://bit.ly/vaccine-injury-payouts]:
The National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act (NCVIA) of 1986 was signed into law by President Ronald Reagan as part of a larger health bill on Nov 14, 1986, to reduce the potential financial liability of vaccine makers due to vaccine injury claims. By doing this, the president signed away the rights of Americans to sue vaccine makers, replacing them with a law that forces families who have suffered vaccine injury or death to sue the U.S. government instead of a pharmaceutical company.
As a result, the NCVIA led to the creation of the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP), which allows Americans to file a petition for compensation for vaccines injuries.
In addition, a United States Special Claims Court was set up and given full authority as judge with no jury to decide the fate of Americans who were unfortunate to be stricken by a vaccine injury — which can range from mild symptoms to chronic illnesses and even death.
On February 22, 2011 the U.S. Supreme Court shielded drug companies from all liability for harm caused by vaccines mandated by government when companies could have made a safer vaccine. Unfortunately, most people in America were not aware that they could sue for damages from vaccine injuries or that vaccines were ruled to be unavoidably unsafe by the U.S. Supreme Court! [Ref: http://bit.ly/no-pharma-liability]
But, despite that lack of awareness, vaccine injury cases are on the rise. Some examples include huge payouts for flu shot injuries ($61 million in 2015), chicken pox injuries ($5.8 million in 2015), hepatitis B injuries ($8 million in 2015), and TDaP/DTP/DPT and D/T injuries ($9.8 million). [Ref: http://bit.ly/vaccine-injury-payouts]
People who are pro-vaccine will point out that these payouts don't mean that these vaccines actually caused any injuries. That's true, but, as I mentioned earlier, even if only 10% of these cases were vaccine-related injuries, that's still too many injuries!
------------------------------------------------------------------
𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝟲 [𝗙𝗟𝗨 𝗩𝗜𝗥𝗨𝗦 𝗕𝗜𝗢𝗟𝗢𝗚𝗬]: The flu virus is an RNA-replicating virus that makes small errors (mutations) when it copies its genetic code during reproduction within the host cell. But, because the flu virus is an RNA virus, it lacks the self-correcting mechanism to fix the errors. As a result, the flu virus is not genetically stable as it mutates and changes the properties of its hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA) surface proteins. These two proteins are responsible for how the virus attaches, invades and escapes the host cell.
http://bit.ly/virus-structure
Ok, so what does all that science mumbo-jumbo mean to you? :-) Well, it means that the scientists are unable to predict the right strain to put in the vaccine because the flu virus continues to mutate! As a result, according to the CDC, the flu is only successful 10% to 47% of the time!
http://bit.ly/virus-mutations
You see, the antibodies created in your body by the flu vaccine do not recognize the new flu virus antigen and therefore cannot stop it or kill it. These errors (or mutations) are why the vaccine fails more than half the time!
To make matters worse, the adjuvants in the flu vaccine create a strong Th2 antibody immune response but a weak Th1 cell immune response. That means that there are a lot of antibodies to "tag" the virus, but, there aren't enough killer cells to destroy the viruses, making people (who lack these killer cells) more susceptible to the flu and pneumonia!
So, what are you to do? Bottom-line, whether you get the flu vaccine or not, you MUST strengthen your immune system and your overall health. Even if you get the flu shot, you can't expect it to protect you if you don't take the steps to protect yourself by eating healthier and living a healthier lifestyle.

𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝟳𝗮 [𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗗𝗥𝗨𝗚 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗕𝗟𝗘𝗠 𝗜𝗡 𝗔𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗔]: This probably should be POINT #1. I've discussed this issue for years, but, most people have ignored this problem because they don't see it as a big problem. Of course, that changes after you develop a disease like diabetes and realize years later that the drugs don't really work.
When most people see the words "Drug Problem in America", they envision a problem with cocaine, heroin, and other street drugs. However, the Number 1 drug problem in America is NOT street drugs -- it's PRESCRIPTION drugs!
And, as I've mentioned in my classes, my books, seminars, workshops, etc.: If we continue to keep our heads in the sand, this problem will continue to grow until one day, each and everyone of us will be affected directly or indirectly.
Forty years ago, there were very few TV commercials about prescription drugs with a revenue of $12 billion in 1980. Twenty years later, TV commercials increased more than 10-fold and prescription drug revenues skyrocketed to $121 billion! And, that doubled to $242 billion within another 8 years by 2008! [Ref: http://bit.ly/prescription-drug-expenditures]
Americans filled 4.3 billion prescriptions and doled out nearly $374 billion on medicine in 2014, according to new data from the IMS Institute for Healthcare Informatics. The data shows that American men and women's spending on medicine hit the highest level since 2001, up 13% in 2014 compared with the year before. [Ref: http://bit.ly/American-spending-on-drugs]
Americans take more prescriptions drugs per month than the next 3 countries combined! Americans spend almost $1,000 per person per year on drugs, which is twice more than countries like France and Germany. But, the pharmaceutical companies want even more revenues and profits. [Someone has to pay for those big mansions and yachts]. :-) And, that someone is us ...
For example, a couple years ago, in order to increase the pool of people that take prescription drugs for high blood pressure and high cholesterol, the pharmaceutical industry partnered with the medical industry, which lowered their medical diagnosis targets on high blood pressure and high cholesterol under the guise of helping patients obtain an earlier diagnosis. This "help" increased the potential customer base for new prescription drugs by more than 37 million people!
So, what does that have to do with vaccines? Well, vaccines are a subset of the bigger drug problem that we've ignored over the years in America. Back in 2000, the vaccine market was around $6 billion. Today the vaccine market is worth at least $24 billion and will be worth $61 billion by 2020, with America dominating the global vaccines market, accounting for about 45% of the total revenue. Vaccines have the highest profit margin of any pharmaceutical drug on the market. Drug companies make more money off vaccines than they do any other pharmaceutical drug, in terms of profit margin. [RE: http://bit.ly/vaccine-market-revenues]
More than 40 years ago, the pharmaceutical industry was not happy with the profits and revenues in the vaccine market. So, the pharmaceutical industry started lobbying our lawmakers to implement new laws associated with vaccines, including removing the pharmaceutical companies as being liable for the side effects of vaccines!
You see, Big Pharma knew that it needed to change the rules in order to turn the vaccine market into a multi-billion dollar business!
And, while we continue to argue among ourselves or ignore the problem, Big Pharma continues to increase their revenues and profits.
FYI: Recently, over the past few years, I've noticed a dramatic increase in vaccine TV commercials ... When are we going to learn? ...
"𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁."
------------------------------------------------------------------
𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝟳𝗯 [𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗗𝗥𝗨𝗚 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗕𝗟𝗘𝗠 𝗜𝗡 𝗔𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗔]: The most common drug prescriptions in America are for heart disease, diabetes, cancer, antidepressants, opioids, antibiotics, high blood pressure, and vaccines.
------------------------------------------------------------------
𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝟴𝗮 [𝗕𝗜𝗚 𝗣𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗠𝗔 &𝗮𝗺𝗽; 𝗗𝗥𝗨𝗚 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗜𝗘𝗦]: When I was diabetic, I found it difficult to believe that prescription drugs were harmful. In fact, drugs saved my life! But, when I did some in-depth research and looked at the science of disease pathophysiology and pathogenesis, science showed me that drugs were not the right long-term solution, especially for lifestyle-driven diseases.
If you find yourself struggling with what's the real truth behind all of these drug controversies and what to do, instead of arguing about it, there are 4 ways to figure out the truth: (1) See if there's a money trail; (2) Do the research; (3) Educate yourself about the science and disease pathology; and, (4) Design a science-based non-drug, alternative solution for your health problem.
Some people will do the first one, because it's not that difficult. Some people will do the research because they want to know more than just the money-side of the issue.
Unfortunately, this is where most people stop. Not because they don't want to know more, but, because it takes a lot of work and time to understand and learn how science really works. And, then, it takes even more work and time to use that science to go the extra mile and design a bottoms-up, science-based, results-driven alternative solution. Science is not for everyone :-)And, the pharmaceutical companies know that.
And, Big Pharma knows that people like to complain, point fingers and blame others. It's to their benefit because it keeps people divided while they rake in the big money.
For example, a lot of people blame the doctors for the vaccine problem. Doctors are not the problem! They are a SYMPTOM of the bigger problem!
And, other people blame science. Science is not the problem! It's the people in powerful positions who manipulate the science and the statistics to protect their multi-billion dollar business, e.g. Big Pharma, FDA, CDC, AMA, lawmakers, etc.
People think this is a moral issue. It's not. People think this is a medical issue. It's not. It's business. And, until we begin to realize that it's business, we will continue to argue among ourselves and blame the wrong people while Big Pharma gets more and more powerful.
And, this business is backed by the government and lawmakers -- the people we voted for ... They're all laughing to the bank while we argue among ourselves ...
------------------------------------------------------------------
𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝟴𝗯 [𝗕𝗜𝗚 𝗣𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗠𝗔 & 𝗕𝗜𝗚 𝗠𝗢𝗡𝗘𝗬]: The prescription drug business, which includes vaccines, is a multi-billion dollar industry. Getting angry and upset about this won't help you with your diabetes or other health problems. Instead of getting angry, get smarter and eat healthier, and avoid becoming a victim of the prescription drug business.
And, do not underestimate the pharmaceutical companies -- they are always one or two steps ahead of us. They along with the CDC have paid TV networks/media to advertise their products and paid off government officials to get laws passed that would eventually make most vaccines mandatory by law to further increase their revenues and profits!
Warning! Over the past few years, I've noticed a huge increase in TV commercials about vaccines. It's the same game plan that Big Pharma used 25 years ago with various prescription drugs. And, it worked very well as drug prescriptions for heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol went up more than 210%!
------------------------------------------------------------------
𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝟴𝗰 [𝗕𝗜𝗚 𝗣𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗠𝗔 & 𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗬 𝗩𝗔𝗖𝗖𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗦]:We're not aware of any US federal vaccination laws, but all 50 states have state laws requiring children to be vaccinated against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (generally in a DTaP vaccine); polio (an IPV vaccine); and measles, mumps and rubella (generally in an MMR vaccine). However, there are religious, philosophical and medical exemptions for most states. [Ref: http://bit.ly/vaccine-exemptions]
However, be aware that Big Pharma is working with lawmakers within each state to get rid of these exemptions for most of the major vaccines!
Concerning the flu vaccine, although Big Pharma has tried :-), there are no current state or federal laws making the flu vaccine mandatory. However, Big Pharma has gotten around this by using the CDC and insurance companies to convince health-related employers and companies to require that their employees get vaccinated. It's their first step towards getting this vaccine made mandatory.
But, here's where the science works against them. There are multiple issues centered around the flu virion's morphology and ability to continually mutate, combined with the documented flu vaccine's ineffectiveness and dangerous side effects. Some examples of these issues from the National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) include:
-- The mercury issue and its adverse side effects [Ref: http://bit.ly/mercury-flu-vaccines]
-- There's no guarantee that the flu shot will work [Ref: http://bit.ly/flu-vaccine-ineffectiveness]
-- Why flu mandates are ineffective [Ref: http://bit.ly/why-flu-mandates-fail]
-- Flu vaccine continues to fail [Ref: http://bit.ly/flu-vaccine-fails-2015]
In addition to the documented ineffectiveness of the flu vaccine, recent studies show that if you get the flu shot in consecutive years, it reduces its effectiveness even more! So, year-to-year flu vaccines are not effective, yet, the CDC has yet to mention this to the public. Gee, I wonder why? :-)
[Ref: http://bit.ly/year-to-year-flu-vaccine]
People in all parts of the country need to mount a coordinated and focused campaign to write to their government officials, have peaceful protests, provide education & awareness, and stop the onset of mandatory vaccines before it's too late ... Ironically, these mandates are spreading like a virus ...
------------------------------------------------------------------
𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝟴𝗱 [𝗕𝗜𝗚 𝗣𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗠𝗔 & 𝗙𝗘𝗔𝗥 𝗧𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗦]: Unfortunately, the CDC, Big Pharma, FDA, AMA, some doctors, etc. all use or support fear tactics, slick marketing campaigns and misleading TV commercials to get us to believe that drugs are the best solution for our diabetes and other health problems.
I recall when I was diabetic and my endocrinologist yelled at me and told me that I would die if I continued to wean myself off the insulin. I will admit to you that it scared me -- a lot. In fact, I was so sure that my endocrinologist was right, that I tested my blood glucose 8 to 12 times a day, waiting for the other shoe to fall -- but, it didn't. FYI: I talked about this at a medical conference during the first 2 minutes of the following video:
http://bit.ly/dtd-video-3
Fear is a powerful motivator, especially when you don't have the right knowledge. It would have been a lot easier for me to just give in to the doctor -- but, my daughter (Thanks, Cynthia!) my mother, my sister (Thanks, Margo!), and my brother (Thanks, Greg) wouldn't allow it. So, I was fortunate to overcome the fear because of their support and the support from co-workers and people in the community and local churches ...
After my recovery, I remember when churches and other community groups would ask me to speak, some reps from various health organizations labeled me as "anti-drug". I quickly corrected them and changed the narrative. Why? Because when you're labeled as anti-something, there is a natural inclination for people to want to argue with you. I changed my narrative to being "the ex-diabetic engineer who can help diabetics", not "the guy who hates drugs." In fact, if you google part of that phrase ("ex-diabetic engineer"), my name will come up on the first page of Google. Pretty cool, right?
At a local health fair where I was asked to speak, a doctor stood up and accused me of being anti-drug. Instead of arguing with him (and realizing that most of my audience took drugs), I said: "Actually, drugs saved my life. I love drugs." :-) The doctor was so shocked by my response, he didn't know what to say, so he sat down.
Then, I said: "Although the drugs saved my life, I realized that if I continued to take the drugs over a long period of time, that my body would deteriorate and would become dependent on the drugs."
Then, I asked the audience: "Is there anyone out there who has been taking drugs for more than 5 years and their diabetes got better? Anybody? [Dead silence]
Then, I said: "So, if it's okay with everyone, I would like to discuss how you can live a healthier life. How does that sound?"
The place went nuts -- there was a loud uproar of amens and hallelujahs. Even the doctor shook his head in agreement.
You see, I believe there is a win-win position that we can all take when it comes to any health issue. It's a matter of restructuring your narrative to align with the masses, instead of arguing with them. The vaccine issue is a prime example where you have pro-vaxxers and anti-vaxxers pitted against each other even though both groups are after the same thing: optimum health and safety for children and adults ...
------------------------------------------------------------------
𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝟴𝗲 [𝗕𝗜𝗚 𝗣𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗠𝗔 & 𝗣𝗥𝗢/𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗜-𝗩𝗔𝗫𝗫𝗘𝗥𝗦]: The pharmaceutical industry is the most powerful lobbyist in the country that controls a multi-billion-dollar drug industry. More importantly, they protect that business by getting laws in place that control the masses and grow their revenue streams.
Most people mean well and try to do what's right for their families and communities as both pro-vaxxers and anti-vaxxers argue among themselves. However, they fail to see how they are being controlled and manipulated by Big Pharma. If both groups looked at the big picture, they would realize two things:
(1) Big Pharma WANTS you to argue among yourselves -- that's how they stay in control!
(2) Both pro-vaxxer and anti-vaxxer groups actually want the same thing: optimum health and safety for all children and adults. If vaccines were safer and more effective, almost all children and adults would be safe and healthy.
Maybe it's naive on my part, but, instead of two groups fighting each other, the groups should combine towards a common goal to have "safer, more effective vaccines and no more unsafe vaccines" as the goal. How about a "safe vaccines" group or organization? Big Pharma knows this is the only way that they could lose control -- is for the masses to unite against them instead of against each other.
So, Big Pharma will continue to stoke the fires on both sides and keep them fighting among themselves while they stay in control and increase their profits and revenues.
------------------------------------------------------------------
𝗔 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗗-𝗢𝗙𝗙: The vaccine issue is a very complex problem that requires a review and analysis of several key areas in order to reach an effective solution where everyone wins. Some of the key areas include: Science, Design/Manufacturing, Education, Business, Politics, Legal, and Communications (Emotions, Ego/Pride) (More about this in a future post if there is interest).
Over the years, during discussions with several virologists and scientists, they agreed with me that the pharmaceutical industry needs to make changes to their vaccine design and manufacturing processes, especially in the area of quality control (safety, efficacy, toxicity, chemistry, sterility). Maybe I missed this during my research, but, I'm not sure why this is not being discussed anywhere. If the pharmaceutical industry made these changes, it would ensure safer and more effective vaccines for everyone! Vaccine injuries and deaths could be reduced significantly to less than 0.1%!
But, the sad fact here is that no one appears to be raising this as an issue. In addition, there is no beneficial reason (financially) for the pharmaceutical companies to change and invest in more effective manufacturing processes that would produce safer and more effective prescription drugs or vaccines. So, unless they are pressured somehow or they are at risk of losing significant profits, they're not going to change. Any suggestions?
FYI: Fortunately, in the meantime, there are unselfish and caring people like health advocates Brandy Vaughan and Deniece Young who are providing awareness and education about vaccines. This is not an easy thing to do!
Maybe they and other health advocates along with people from Washington could bring the pro-vaxxers and anti-vaxxers together to unite and create a national movement against Big Pharma to implement changes to their vaccine design and manufacturing processes.
Sidebar: Over the years, because of my background in biochemistry and engineering in Corporate America, I believe that I have taught a lot of people (including medical people) about disease pathophysiology, pathogenesis, cell biology, epidemiology, etiology, nutritional science, the list goes on ... But, despite everything that I've taught others about the science of disease, during the past year, I've learned a lot from Ms. Young. Yes, Deniece, now the student becomes the teacher. :-)

𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝟴𝗳 [𝗖𝗗𝗖 & 𝗙𝗘𝗔𝗥 𝗠𝗢𝗡𝗚𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚]: During some of our research, we were surprised to see the CDC admit to so many deaths from the flu virus. But, when we looked at the data, some of the numbers seemed to be inflated. Unfortunately, the CDC inflates some of their flu death statistics to "motivate" more people to get the flu shot. [Ref: http://bit.ly/CDC-fear-mongering]
According to the CDC, about 36,000 Americans die from the flu every year. This number comes up on a multitude of websites. But, that number is more than the number of deaths from the "Hong Kong flu" pandemic of 1968-1969 that killed 34,000 Americans. So, the number of annual deaths today is more than a pandemic?
Part of the reason for the inflated numbers is because the CDC groups influenza and pneumonia deaths together, even though influenza is by far not the sole cause of pneumonia. Hmm-mmm ...
[Ref: http://bit.ly/CDC-inflated-flu-deaths]
p.s. If you haven't figured out why this is happening, remember -- this is a business ... and, the more people who get the vaccine, the better it is for business ...

𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝟵 [𝗗𝗥𝗨𝗚𝗦 𝗪𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗘𝗡 𝗜𝗠𝗠𝗨𝗡𝗘 𝗦𝗬𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗠]: Drugs do not strengthen your immune system. Neither do vaccines! Drugs, along with vaccines, processed foods and synthetic supplements weaken your immune system!
But, this should not surprise anyone. It is well-known that prescription drugs cause side effects and weaken the immune system and other systems in the body. [Ref: http://bit.ly/drugs-weaken-immune-system]
Similarly, vaccines also cause side effects and weaken your immune system. Initially, some of our students and clients didn't believe this because they didn't experience any side effects when they got the flu shot. But, lately, some of them have had some serious adverse reactions to getting the flu shot.
[Ref: http://bit.ly/drugs-weaken-immune-system]
A medical study conducted at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center found that women who received flu vaccines had a weakened immune system response in subsequent years. Lisa Christian, PhD, the lead researcher on the study, concluded, “Growing evidence shows that those who received a flu shot in the prior year have lower antibody responses in the current year.” The study proves yet again that the flu vaccine weakens the immune system and actually makes people more vulnerable to influenza infections.
[Ref: http://bit.ly/flu-shots-weaken-immune-system]
And, when your immune system is weakened, you become susceptible to a host of other diseases and illnesses. On the other hand, if you avoid the drugs and processed foods, you can strengthen and balance your immune system and avoid most diseases and illnesses.
------------------------------------------------------------------
𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝟭𝟬𝗮 [𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗔𝗟 𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗘𝗦]: Knowledge is power. Information is power -- but only if people have the right information.
All of us need to pitch in and let people know that there are simple solutions for dealing with the flu virus. Please take a moment and share this information -- you may save a life!
Here is what you should do BEFORE you get the flu: http://bit.ly/flu-warning-tips
And, here's what you should do AFTER you get the flu: http://bit.ly/after-u-get-flu
The key point here that everyone needs to understand is that no matter whether you get the flu shot or not, you still need to know how to STRENGTHEN your immune system to fight the flu. More specifically, you need to use natural antiviral strategies to fight the flu and kill the virus. Examples of foods, herbs and supplements with antiviral properties include: garlic, olive leaf extract, oregano oil, elderberry tea/syrup, virgin coconut oil, Manuka honey, colloidal silver.
------------------------------------------------------------------
𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝟭𝟬𝗯 [𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗔𝗟 𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗘𝗦]: First of all, when it comes to fighting the flu, the problem is not the pathogen itself -- it is the terrain in which those pathogens interact. If your body is strong, then, it can defend itself against most pathogens. In other words, if you have a healthy and strong immune system, it can defend your body against the flu virus. But, if you are not healthy, your weak immune system will not be able to defend your body against the flu virus.
There are many natural (non-drug) methods for strengthening the immune system against the flu virus. [Ref: http://bit.ly/dtd-natural-remedies]

𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝟭𝟭 [𝗣𝗥𝗢-𝗗𝗥𝗨𝗚 𝘃𝘀. 𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗜-𝗗𝗥𝗨𝗚]: Everyone has to make a difficult decision concerning the efficacy and safety of taking prescription drugs; and, whether to take a drug because it is recommended by our doctor or the CDC. Pro-drug people believe that prescription drugs are effective and safe. On the other hand, anti-drug people believe that prescription drugs are not effective or safe.
So, who's right? Who should you believe? What should you do? ... Have you figured it out yet? ...
So, which side did you choose?
Pro-drug? Wrong answer.
Anti-drug? Wrong answer.
It turns out that both statements can be true. Given my experience with diabetes and insulin, I am proof that both statements can be true.
So, you see, choosing one side over the other is not as simple as you may think.
So, given my personal experience, it would seem to make sense that the same thing can be said for pro-vaccine and anti-vaccine people -- both sides can make a strong case for their positions.
But, while both sides continue to justify their position, Big Pharma is laughing all the way to the bank ...
------------------------------------------------------------------
𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗟𝗗 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗗𝗢?
FYI: I recall when I was diabetic, my endocrinologist told me that I should get the flu shot because of my high blood glucose and a weak immune system. He also questioned whether I had the right knowledge and the discipline to use natural methods. He felt that I would be putting my health at risk because of my diabetes. Needless to say, he was surprised that I did not come down with the flu. And, he is now even more surprised that I have never come down with the flu after all these years. He says I'm lucky. :-)
So, what should you do? At the minimum, BE PREPARED and do your own research -- don't just listen to me.
And, if, you still decide to get the flu shot, then, perform a periodic detox to limit the side effects of the flu vaccine. In addition, make sure that you include some of these super foods and herbs as part of your nutritional program so that they are always on hand. By doing so, you will BE PREPARED to ward off the flu before it takes hold in your body.
I sincerely believe that if you do your homework (research), you will BE PREPARED and you will be healthy. If you don't do your homework, you will not be prepared and you will not be healthy -- it's that simple.

𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗯𝗮𝗿 𝟭: I don't necessarily agree with all of the information on some of the websites referenced in this post. In addition, some of these websites may manipulate the data or the facts. That is why I always go back to the science. I have found that the more I understand about the science, the easier it is to understand the controversial issues with diabetes, nutrition, prescription drugs, vaccines, and other health issues. The drug companies have assumed that since most people are not scientists, that they can trick or intimidate us (with fear tactics) into making poor health decisions. Unfortunately, those poor decisions end up damaging our health while making money for the drug companies. In addition, the drug companies are very good at manipulating opposing groups to argue among themselves instead of uniting against the drug companies.
𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗯𝗮𝗿 𝟮: As engineers, we are taught to provide solutions to a problem, not to complain about the problem. Although we have been dealing with the flu vaccine issue for several years now, it pales in comparison to the number of years that thousands of experts out there have invested in trying to find a viable solution to all of this. If you have some ideas or solutions, please share them with us and everybody out there! Who knows -- you may just save a life ...
𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘀: In the meantime, I have three suggestions:
𝟭. 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲: Anyone reading this post, please share the natural remedies in this post with everyone you know. That will at least buy some time for the public. [Ref: http://bit.ly/dtd-natural-remedies]
𝟮. 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲: Pro-vaxxers and anti-vaxxers, please consider working together to get Big Pharma to focus on safer and more effective vaccines for children and adults.
𝟯. 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲: If people educate themselves about science, they'll learn how the immune system really works and will stop blaming doctors and scientists -- they're not the problem -- they're the symptom ...
I hope this information will be educational and helpful to those of you who asked us to write about the flu and how to treat it naturally.
p.s. Because of the controversy associated with vaccines, my attorney told me that I must add a disclaimer to this post, even though there are disclaimers on my website and in my diabetes and flu books.

Autoimmune Diseases and Glycobiology

Autoimmune diseases arise from an overactive immune response of the body against substances and tissues normally present in the body. In other words, the body actually attacks its own cells. The immune system mistakes some part of the body as a pathogen and attacks it. This may be due to a cellular communication problem.

At one time medical professional learned in biology classes that cellular communication in humans took place via proteins embedded in the surface of most cells of the body. New research in glycobiology has proven that this is not the case. Science now recognizes that cellular communication takes place via glycoproteins, which are the biological merging of specific plant carbohydrates and proteins embedded in cell surfaces.

It is believed that when certain high quality macronutrients are ingested, the body is able to form the very important glycoproteins that embed themselves on cell surfaces. It’s these exact glycoproteins that allow the cells of the immune system to communicate with one another.

Examples of high quality macronutrients ("super" carbs) include medicinal mushrooms, sea vegetables, some land vegetables and some whole fruits that are organically grown and ripened on the plant are rich sources of polysaccharides and phytonutrients. This is because vegetables and fruits plucked before ripening and subjected to ripening by artificial means do not have the last surge of nutrients which are only available to the naturally ripening process.

Glycobiology is the study of the structure, biosynthesis, and biology of saccharides (sugar chains or glycans) that are widely distributed in nature. These saccharides (or sugar molecules) are essential components of all living things that require cell-to-cell communication to sustain life.

Glycobiology believes that these sugar molecules constitute an ‘alphabet’ of ‘letters’ that can be combined in endless ways to form ‘words’ which are used by the body to communicate information required for healthy function. McAnalley and Vennum (2000), explain that the process of molecular communication codes can be thought of as a written language whereby just as four different shapes can be combined to make many letters and the letters can be combined to make words, the different carbohydrate molecules combine to make cellular recognition (McAnalley and Vennum 2000, p2).

Once cells have been properly glycosylated only then are they able to send a cell-to-cell communication and communicate with other cells, (i.e. recognize the enemy and tag it).
It is believed that autoimmune diseases occur when cells are not properly glycosylated (the presence of a sugar added to a protein) and thereby unable to differentiate between a ‘friendly’ cell and an ‘unfriendly’ cell (Nugent 2005, p21).

However, if cells (such as red blood cells) are glycosylated improperly, this can lead to excessive glycation and damage to the red blood cells. Then, these damaged red blood cells create advanced glycated end products (AGEs) and cause damage to the arteries as they circulate throughout the body.

Although it is recognized that a multiple of factors ensure good health and no one nutrient stands alone in this process, there is strong belief that without proper cell-to-cell communication, there is no hope for good health because without communication there can be no function.

Glycoproteins, proteoglycans and glycolipids are the most abundant glycoconjugates found in mammalian cells. They are found predominantly on the outer cell wall and in secreted fluids. Glycoconjugates have been shown to be important in cell-cell interactions due to the presence on the cell surface of various glycan binding receptors in addition to the glycoconjugates themselves.

However, more research in glycobiology needs to be performed and studied to determine the benefits to our health.

Please Note: In the meantime, do not waste your money buying glyconutrient supplements. Instead, get your key sugars from quality carbohydrates such as land vegetables, sea vegetables, whole fruits, beans, and some organic whole grains.

Top 10 Super Foods for Thyroid

When you have hypothyroidism, or an underactive thyroid, symptoms can include fatigue, depression, constipation, and other more serious health concerns. Fortunately, eating certain foods can help boost the effectiveness of your thyroid.
Bone Broth
Bone broth contains collagen, glycine and other nutrients that to help repair and heal a leaky gut. Seventy percent of our immune system resides in the gut, making it impossible to have a healthy and balanced body without a healthy digestive system. Bone broth naturally heals the gut lining, excellent news for anyone with leaky gut, which most people with autoimmune diseases suffer from! Bone broth is packed full of amino acids and collagen, making it both a thyroid and digestive health super food. You can drink it plain, like a savory tea, or use it as a base for soups and pastas.
Brazil Nuts
Brazil nuts are a top source of selenium. In fact, just two of these nuts contain 100 percent of your daily needs. Selenium is often forgotten about for optimal health, but this one mineral is necessary for a well-functioning thyroid, liver, skin health, and even a healthy body weight.
Selenium can also help decrease anti-thyroid antibodies and has even been shown to help improve the physical structure of the thyroid itself.
Macadamia nuts and hazelnuts are also particularly high in selenium.
Chlorella
Chlorella is a single cell fresh water green microalgae that is loaded with nutrients. It contains more nucleic acids (RNA/DNA) than any other food, which gives it a lot of energy producing potential.
It is a great supplement with a wide variety of useful nutritional applications, which include supporting natural detoxification, digestive health, immune function, thyroid support, inflammation reduction, antioxidant function, estrogen balance, cholesterol metabolism, and circulation.
Chlorella contains more chlorophyll than most plants, along with an impressive array of vitamins and minerals (A, D, E, K1, beta carotene, lutein, B vitamins, iron, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, and zinc).
Chlorella contains glyconutrients (glucose, mannose, rhamnose, arabinose, galactose, and xylose) and amino acids (glutamine, alanine, serine, glycine, proline, asparagine, threonine, lysine, cysteine, tyrosine, and leucine).
Chlorella is one of the top nutrients for absorption of toxic metals as it readily absorbs toxins such as uranium, cadmium and mercury.
Note: Chlorella can contain moderate levels of iodine, so those with iodine sensitive thyroid conditions or iodine allergies should avoid it. Those with auto-immune disease should consult with a doctor first as it can increase immune function and may make these conditions worse.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil’s medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) support thyroid function, liver health, brain function, hormonal health, and help speed up metabolism naturally. So try adding a couple of teaspoons (or tablespoons) to your daily diet, but be sure to choose organic and extra virgin coconut oil as the best option.
One of the many unwanted side effects of Hashimoto’s is fatigue. If you find yourself dragging all day grabbing cup after cup of coffee just to stay awake, you may want to try adding some coconut oil to your diet. This oil contains two important acids, caprylic and lauric, which help balance your metabolism, fight fatigue, and provide powerful immune-boosting properties.
Coconut oil has even been shown to help fight off pathogens in the GI tract. This is extremely important because, as you now know, gut health and thyroid health go hand in hand.
Try adding a tablespoon or two of coconut oil to your morning smoothies for an extended energy boost while also supporting your metabolism and keeping your immune system in tiptop shape.
Eggs
Grass-fed, organic eggs are fantastic for optimizing your thyroid. Eggs contain choline, vitamin D, B vitamins, easy to digest protein, and healthy fats, which all nourish the thyroid gland and promote optimal brain health.
Did you know that your thyroid can’t thrive without enough healthy fats? Cholesterol is actually the building block of hormones, so don’t fear the fats in whole eggs — enjoy them! Fats propel energy in the body and keep digestion humming along too, so skip all those egg white omelets and use some whole eggs once in a while!
Fermented Foods
Fermented foods such as sauerkraut, kimchee, coconut yogurt, and water kefir are loaded with healthy probiotics to help support the healthy bacteria in the gut.
Remember that gut health is central to the health of our immune system and thyroid. More and more evidence points to the fact that intestinal microbiota is essential for hormone balance.
Keeping the bacteria in our gut healthy requires that we feed the healthy bacteria in our digestive system to help keep the pathogenic bacteria out. You can top bowls with sauerkraut or just eat coconut yogurt plain for breakfast!
Flaxseed
Flaxseeds are important for your health because it is high in fiber and it also aids your thyroid. Those with an underactive thyroid can boost their thyroid hormone ratio by consuming this food on a daily basis. You only need about one tablespoon of freshly ground flaxseed every day to reap its full benefits.
Fruits and Vegetables
An early symptom of hypothyroidism is weight gain. Low-calorie, high-density foods such as fresh produce are the cornerstone of every successful weight loss program. Include either fresh fruits or veggies at each meal, if possible.
Specific foods such as blueberries, cherries, sweet potatoes, and green peppers are also rich in antioxidants, nutrients that are known to lower risk for heart disease.
However, people with hypothyroidism may want to limit their intake of raw cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli and cabbage, to 5 ounces a day, as they can block the thyroid's ability to absorb iodine, which is essential for normal thyroid function.
Ginger
You probably already use ginger to calm nausea and upset stomach, but it is also ideal for the thyroid. This herb is rich in zinc, magnesium and potassium, all of which are nutrients that the thyroid requires for optimal health. You must use the fresh ginger herb to reap the full benefits.
Goji Berries
Goji berries are an excellent source of flavonoids and are rich in antioxidants. In general, the endocrine system which also includes the thyroid is relatively fragile and vulnerable to damages caused by the oxidative processes.
These damages are a result from our exposure to toxins from the environment, sun radiation, and pesticides in fruits and veggies. Therefore, the foods that fight free radicals and are antioxidant-rich are vital for our health and well-being.
Licorice Root
Licorice root is an adaptogenic herb that helps balance cortisol levels and improves acid production in the stomach. Licorice root supports the body’s natural processes for maintaining the mucosal lining of the stomach and duodenum. This herb is especially beneficial if someone’s leaky gut is being caused by emotional stress.
Licorice root has been used for over 3,000 years in the treatment of digestive issues including ulcers and indigestion. If you have an underactive thyroid and are experiencing fatigue, this herb can help. Licorice also gives you a gentle boost in energy.
Maca
Consumption of Maca helps balancing the pituitary that itself sends hormonal signals to the thyroid thus regulating its work. This Peruvian root contains nutrients such as Vitamin B, zinc, iron and copper all of which boost the function of the thyroid.
Consume 2-3 Tbsp of Maca root powder with your morning smoothie or make a salad dressing with 2 Tbsp of Maca powder and olive oil and eat on salads.
Seaweed
Seaweed has a high concentration of iodine, an essential nutrient for thyroid function. Seaweed, packaged as nori, wakame, and dulse, can be used in sushi, soups, and salads. Another plus: Seaweed offers nutritional benefits of fiber, calcium, and vitamins A, B, C, E, and K.
But, it is possible to have too much iodine, which can worsen thyroid disease. However, according to the American Thyroid Association the likelihood of this is greater if you're taking supplements that contain iodine.
Keep in mind that if you suffer from a selenium deficiency, iodine can actually cause more inflammation. To prevent this from happening, try adding a couple of Brazil nuts to your diet to help balance both selenium and iodine.
Spirulina
Spirulina is rich in minerals including iodine, carotenoids, beta-carotene and Vitamin A. It is also one of the best green foods for detoxifying the liver. Good functioning of the liver is crucial as the transformation of the inactive hormone T4 (of the thyroid) into an active hormone T3 is taking place there.
In addition to all the nutrients Spirulina contains, it is also a great source of tyrosine. It is one of the most important amino-acids when it comes to healthy thyroid.
Turmeric
An all-around excellent health-promoting superfood, turmeric works well for those with Hashimoto’s since it’s great at reducing inflammation and can even help give your body a detoxifying boost.
Detoxification is important because some patients with Hashimoto’s also have heavy metal toxicity. This superfood has also been shown to inhibit thyroid cancer cells. Toss it in stir-fries, or sprinkle a bit in your smoothie in the morning.
Vegetables
Leafy green vegetables contain an array of B vitamins, amino acids, and minerals, like magnesium, which your body needs to function well.
Consume a variety of greens to ensure a balance, and so that you’re not consuming too much of one type. Try greens such as Romaine, spinach, arugula, collards, and spring mix lettuces to switch things up. When you go this route, a little kale and cabbage now and again will do the body good and are less likely to negatively affect your thyroid. Balance is key!
Wild Salmon
Wild salmon is a great food for your thyroid due to its high omega-3 fatty acid profile. Salmon is also a great source of B vitamins, Vitamin D, amino acids, magnesium, selenium, and zinc.
Be sure when you choose salmon to opt for wild fish from Alaskan or Norwegian waters. Farmed salmon and those that are cultivated in other parts of the world are usually filled with toxins, pesticides, antibiotics and more, which do not promote optimal health.

The omega-3 fatty acids found in other fatty fish such as trout, tuna, or sardines make these fish an excellent choice for lunch or dinner. Unmanaged hypothyroidism can increase the risk for heart disease as a result of higher levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL), the "bad" cholesterol. Omega-3s are known to decrease inflammation, help with immunity, and lower the risk for heart disease. Fish is also a good source of the nutrient selenium, which is most concentrated in the thyroid and also helps decrease inflammation.

Top Foods to Avoid for Thyroid Health

Most people are aware of the obvious healthy foods that will benefit your thyroid as well as your overall health. They include green, leafy and bright-colored vegetables, some fruits, plant oils, cold-water fish, and free-range animal meats.
Also, most people are aware of the obvious foods that are not good for your health, e.g. sugar, pastries, bread, trans fats, alcohol, and tobacco.
However, there are some unhealthy foods that you should avoid and some so-called healthy foods that you should limit or avoid, especially if you are having problems with your thyroid and you need to improve your metabolism, energy level, blood glucose, blood pressure, digestion, nerves, weight, and/or immune system activity.
These foods include: Coffee, Cruciferous Vegetables (Raw), Dairy Products (Cow's Milk/Cheese), Drugs, Fatty Foods, Fiber (Excess), Grains/ Gluten, Processed Foods, Soy, Sugar, and Vegetable Oils.
Coffee
Almost everyone seems to loves coffee, so I'm sure most people are tired of hearing that they have to give up their coffee. Unfortunately, caffeine has been found to overstimulate the thyroid and block the absorption of thyroid hormone medication. When you take the medication with your morning coffee, this causes uncontrollable thyroid levels. Instead, take your medication with water; and, wait at least 30 minutes before having your coffee.
An even better option is to use our DTD Autoimmune Diseases Nutritional Program so that you can get off the thyroid medication and have your coffee whenever you want without any negative effects. (We'll discuss this program later).
Cruciferous Vegetables (Raw)
This is a tricky one. As you are probably aware, cruciferous vegetables (e.g. cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, Brussels sprouts, etc.) provide anti-cancer and blood glucose benefits. They are also beneficial to your thyroid, except in rare situations where the person is iodine-deficient and happens to eat a lot of raw cruciferous vegetables.
These vegetables contain substances called goitrogens, which are compounds that can inhibit the absorption of iodine by your thyroid gland. Iodine is a critical component in the manufacture of thyroid hormones.
To avoid this problem, get a physical exam to make sure that you're not iodine-deficient; and, steam or sauté your vegetables to break down the .
If you are iodine-deficient, make sure that you eat seaweed and wild-caught seafood (not farmed fish). These foods contain iodine, plus selenium, Vitamin D and zinc, which are all helpful for healthy thyroid function.
Dairy Products
Dairy products (e.g. cow’s milk, cheese, ice cream) can create a lot of inflammation in the body. Many people (e.g. lactose-intolerant) find dairy products difficult to digest and they are a common cause of irritable bowel syndrome, bloating and reflux.
If dairy products are disrupting your digestion, it means you will not be absorbing the nutrients from your meals adequately. It can also promote the growth of harmful microbes in your digestive tract such as bad bacteria, yeast and fungi.
The protein in dairy products is called casein and in many people it worsens autoimmune disease just as much as gluten.
Drugs
Most drug affect the biochemistry and hormonal balance within your body, which can affect your thyroid. Avoid recreational drugs such as alcohol, beer, wine and tobacco. And, if possible, avoid OTC drugs and prescription drugs.
FYI: Alcohol has a toxic effect on the thyroid gland and suppresses the ability of the body to use thyroid hormone. Ideally, people with hypothyroidism should cut out alcohol completely or drink in careful moderation.
Fried/Fatty Foods
Fried foods such as French fries and fried meats contain carcinogens and unhealthy fats that cause damage to our cells and negatively affect our hormonal balance.

Fats have been found to disrupt the function of the thyroid and the body's ability to absorb thyroid hormone replacement medicines. Fats may also interfere with the thyroid's ability to produce hormone as well.

Some health care professionals recommend that you cut out all fried foods and reduce your intake of fats from sources such as pasteurized butter, mayonnaise, margarine, and fatty cuts of meat.
Fiber (Excess)
I'm sure this one is a surprise. Getting enough fiber is good for you, but too much can complicate your hypothyroidism treatment. Amounts of dietary fiber from whole grains, vegetables, fruits, beans, and legumes that go above 35 mg a day may affect your digestive system and can interfere with the absorption of thyroid hormone replacement drugs. If you're on a high-fiber diet, ask your doctor if you need a higher dose of thyroid medication. Your maintenance dose may need to be increased if you aren't absorbing enough medication.
Of course, as mentioned earlier, the best way to get around this problem is to follow an autoimmune/thyroid-friendly diet such as the DTD Autoimmune Diseases Nutritional Program so that you are able to control your thyroid without the need for the medication.
Grains/Gluten
Wheat and other grains like rye, barley, spelt, millet and oats contain gluten, which is a major trigger for thyroid problems and autoimmune diseases.
Gluten can irritate the small intestine and cause a great deal of inflammation in the body, and in some people it can trigger an autoimmune thyroid-related disease such as Hashimoto's Thyroiditis or Graves' Disease.
Gluten may also hamper the absorption of thyroid hormone replacement medication.
Processed Foods
Processed foods may taste good, but, they are empty calories that leave us with food cravings and biochemical/hormonal imbalances. In addition, these foods tend to contain lots of sodium and partially hydrogenated oils (trans fats).

Having an underactive thyroid increases a person's risk for high blood pressure, and too much sodium further increases this risk. And, processed foods tend to have a lot of sodium. People with an increased risk for high blood pressure should restrict their sodium intake to 1,500 milligrams a day, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The hydrogenated oil (trans fats) is a "fake" fat that, when absorbed by your cells, causes damage to the integrity of the cell wall, leaving the cell susceptible to bacteria, viruses and toxins. Studies show that this type of fat can cause damage to the myelin sheath of the nerve cells and may even trigger certain autoimmune diseases!
Soy
This food has been marketed for years in the United States as a "healthy" food. But, most soy foods are overly-processed and come from genetically modified beans. Soy is very difficult to digest, so even if soy beans supposedly contain a fair amount of protein on paper, you absorb very little of that protein because of the enzyme inhibitors in soy beans.
The lectins in soy cause irritation to the gut lining and worsen leaky gut syndrome in people with autoimmune disease. Soy is also a source of goitrogens which inhibit iodine absorption.
Soy is loaded with plant-based phytoestrogen, and some researchers believe too much soy may increase a person's risk for hypothyroidism. Even a small serving of soy each day is enough to suppress thyroid function.
Soy is one of the worst foods for your thyroid. Don’t underestimate how damaging this food is to your metabolism.
Sugar
You already know that sugar is bad for you; now you know it’s bad for your thyroid gland as well. This is because of the destructive effects sugar has on your immune system and your gut.
It raises inflammation in your body and makes all autoimmune diseases worse. Sugar fuels the growth of all sorts of harmful pathogens in your gut and fosters gut infections. If your gut lining is overgrown with harmful microbes, they inflame the lining of your intestines and cause “leaky gut syndrome”. This is an initiator and driver of all autoimmune diseases. ("Leaky gut syndrome" will be discussed in more detail later).
Vegetable Oils
Vegetable oils include corn oil, sunflower, safflower, soybean, cottonseed, canola, grape seed and rice bran oil. These oils are all very high in polyunsaturated fats. Your body does require some polyunsaturated fat but the problem with these oils is the delicate fats have been damaged. The extraction process (using heat and chemical solvents) causes the polyunsaturated fats to become damaged and oxidized. If you then cook with those oils, they become damaged even further.

Damaged fats create a great deal of inflammation in your body. They act as free radicals and cause wear and tear to your organs and tissues. Healthy fats to include in your diet include olive oil, macadamia nut oil, avocado oil, raw nuts and seeds, oily fish, avocados, coconut oil and grass-fed raw butter/ghee.

Organs Affected by the Thyroid

Because the thyroid gland affects multiple system, organs and parts of the body; and, because some of those systems affect the thyroid, this can make it difficult for your doctor to provide a proper medical diagnosis.
Systems and organs of the body that are affected by the thyroid include the following.
Adrenal Glands
Thyroid function is intricately tied to our adrenal health. Part of a comprehensive, functional medicine thyroid treatment plan usually involves adrenal gland support for the following reasons:
  • Adrenal fatigue causes the thyroid receptors on cells to lose their sensitivity to thyroid hormones
  • Adrenal fatigue can decrease the conversion of T4 to T3 to a usable form
  • Adrenal fatigue decreases the efficiency of the immune system barriers in the gut, lungs and the blood/brain barrier
  • Adrenal fatigue inhibits absorption of thyroid hormone into cells
  • Adrenal fatigue disrupts the interchange between the hypothalamus and pituitary gland with the thyroid gland

Blood Glucose
Blood glucose (or blood sugar) is controlled by the pancreas. The pancreas and thyroid are both part of the endocrine system. The endocrine system is made of many feedback loops and their various hormones all “talk” to one another and make changes to the body to try and keep things in balance.
These systems also work in both directions. They influence each other. In the case of sugar, insulin is released by the pancreas to help the cells of the body absorb sugar so that it can be used. And the adrenals release cortisol to help sugar get absorbed by the cells of the body.
A hypothyroid state leads to a slow absorption of glucose, a slower breakdown of insulin, a decrease of the speed at which glucose is absorbed in the gut, a lower glucose to insulin response and, finally, less glucose in the cells for the body to use. All of this means less energy to power your cells and brain and more fatigue.
To make matters worse, all of this affects the adrenal glands and the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA axis). In order to try and fix the problem of not having enough sugar, the adrenal glands release the stress hormone cortisol to increase glucose in the cells.
Every Hashimoto’s patient has some degree of the sugar imbalance described above. If you are skinny, its probably hypoglycemia. If you are overweight it may be insulin resistance or metabolic syndrome. If you feel better after you eat, you are hypoglycemic. If you are tired after you eat, you have insulin resistance.
All of this creates a vicious cycle that can really stop you from getting better. All Hashimoto’s patients must take blood sugar problems seriously.
Brain
Thyroid hormones are very important for healthy brains. In the adult brain, thyroid hormones have shown the ability to help the brain grow and change and to help the brain age in a healthy way.
Hashimoto’s patients know about “brain fog”. There are many reasons for this, the principle ones being inflammation of the brain and a breakdown of the blood brain barrier. The proteins that protect the brain (called zonulin) are the very same proteins that protect the gut. So if you have leaky gut, there is a good chance that you also have leaky brain.
When your brain is inflamed you get brain fog and it degenerates.  There are 2 primary symptoms:
1. Depression
2. Fatigue
It is no surprise that the most common drugs prescribed with Hashimoto’s are anti-depressants. You absolutely must support your brain if you have these symptoms.
Brain fog is a brain cell activated immune response. The immune system in the brain is not specialized and sophisticated like the immune system in the rest of the body. Brain immune cells (called microglia) are kind of like paranoid chihuahuas with automatic rifles. They tend to over react quickly and when they do you get lots of inflammation (brain fog).
In some patients, thyroid hormone may improve brain fog. In others it won’t. You have to reduce inflammation in the brain in a different way. In my 6 week course you learn how to do this and what herbs and supplements can really help with this. One important herb that is used is turmeric.
Cardiovascular System (Circulatory)
Thyroid hormones have a big impact on many functions of the arteries and veins in the body. Low T3 levels have been linked to  diseases of the blood vessels. One of the most common problems that Hashimoto’s patients have is cold hands and feet. Hair loss and fungal nail growth can also be signs of poor blood flow.
Hypothyroidism is characterized by the reverse- a lowed heart rate and lower blood pressure. With lowered thyroid hormones in circulation there is an increased risk of atherosclerosis and myocardial infarction (heart attack).
Low thyroid function means less nitric oxide is available in the blood vessels, this can lead to a break down of the vessels themselves.  When you add in the problems with cholesterol and you have a recipe for plaque clogging the arteries.
Hyperthyroidism induces a hyper-dynamic cardiovascular state which manifests by a faster heart rate, higher systolic and diastolic function i.e. higher blood pressure, atrial fibrillation, and reduced exercise performance.
Insomnia is often associated with hyperthyroidism. Some of the symptoms and signs of hyperthyroidism can make sleep difficult. The stress of having a "racing" heart or palpitations, rapid pulse (above 100 beats per minute is considered tachycardia), and higher blood pressure can cause lack of sleep.
Insomnia can also be related to a decreased amount of serotonin production that is linked to gut issues which are often seen with thyroid problems.
Cholesterol
In hypothyroid conditions, both the breakdown and the use of cholesterol by the body are depressed. But the breakdown is much slower, so the net result is higher cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL. This may be slower because of a decrease in the breakdown of fats once they leave the liver or in a decline of LDL receptors.
This is why some Hashimoto’s patients also have high cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL (and sometimes low HDL). Once they get their thyroid under control, it is not unusual to see their cholesterol, LDL and triglycerides return to normal as well.
Digestive System
Chronic constipation is associated with hypothyroidism while diarrhea or frequent bowel movements are linked with hyperthyroidism. These symptoms are partly due to altered metabolism but also are created by faulty digestion beginning in the stomach.
Hypothyroidism can reduce the production of stomach acid by its effect on the hormone, gastrin. When too little gastrin is produced, this reduces the amount of stomach acid (HC1). Bloating, G.E.R.D., heartburn, intestinal inflammation, decreased food digestion and more can result from the lack of normal HC1 levels.
Food allergies are consistently seen in those presenting with thyroid problems. Beyond gluten sensitivity, which most people are aware of, there are other food allergens to which patients will test positive.
Gall Bladder
Gall bladder function is also adversely affected in hypothyroid conditions. Studies have shown that the gall bladder gets larger and doesn’t contract normally.
Studies also report an increase in the number of gallstones and stones in the common bile duct. One reason they think this might be happening is because the thyroid hormone thyroxine relaxes the gall bladder's opening (called the sphincter of Oddi). This makes bile not flow normally, and makes the possibility of stones forming in the bile duct more likely.
Bile also helps to break down cholesterol so when there is less bile, less bile flow and gall bladder is slow and sluggish you have the perfect situation for stone formation.
Metabolism
Damage to the thyroid gland affects the body's metabolic rate. As a result, weight can be easily gained (hypothyroidism) or lost (hyperthyroidism). Hashimoto's disease can cause both weight loss and gain depending on the phase of autoimmune destruction of the thyroid gland.
Cold hands and feet are related to a low metabolism caused by hypothyroidism while sensitivity to heat is linked to hyperthyroidism.
Nervous System
The central nervous system (CNS) can be greatly affected by a thyroid disorder. The CNS reacts to both too little and too much thyroid hormone. Too little hormone causes mental sluggishness or "brain fog" while too much hormone induces anxiety and nervousness. Depression is commonly associated with thyroid conditions.
Recent studies have linked hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's disease with accelerated brain degeneration and development of Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and Huntington's disease.
Red Blood Cells (Anemia)
Anemia is a condition that develops when your blood lacks enough healthy red blood cells or hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is a main part of red blood cells and binds oxygen. If you have too few or abnormal red blood cells, or your hemoglobin is abnormal or low, the cells in your body will not get enough oxygen.
Anemia is diagnosed in 20-60% of patients with hypothyroidism and is often the first sign of hypothyroidism. Anemia caused by an iron or B12 deficiency begins in the stomach and stems from low stomach acid also known as hydrochloric acid or HCl. Hypothyroidism causes the hormone, gastrin, to decrease.
The production of stomach acid, HCl, depends on the hormone gastrin. So when gastrin is diminished there is less stomach acid. Less stomach acid hinders the absorption of such vital nutrients as B12, iron, and calcium.
The most common symptom of anemia is fatigue which is also the hallmark symptom of hypothyroidism.
Reproductive System
Hypothyroidism can be related to heavy menstrual flow, miscarriage, and infertility in women. Hypothyroidism can decrease the absorption of the sex hormone, progesterone, by the body's cells which can upset the menstrual cycle.
Hypothyroidism can also cause constipation which can delay the body's normal elimination of another sex hormone, estrogen.
Skeletal System
Low TSH or a hyperthyroid state can lead to an increased lifetime risk for fractures, even after TSH has become normal again.
In children, a lack of thyroid hormones will affect normal growth. Adults tend to have higher than normal bone density. But, this higher density does not necessarily mean good bone quality: there may be issues with collagen, bone turnover, the size of mineral crystals and bone structure. So, even though the bones are more dense, these people may still be at risk for fractures because the bone quality is really poor.
Summary

Given the many systems and parts of the body that are affected by your thyroid, that means there is a very good reason why you are experiencing the symptoms that you have. There are very clear reasons why your body is experiencing what it is going through.
The goal of this information is to help you to understand how all this works in simple layman terms, so that you can discover how to get control of your health without having to rely on a lot of drugs.

Autoimmune Disease Symptoms, Diagnosis and Treatments

Autoimmune Disease Symptoms

Symptoms of autoimmune disease vary and depend on the type of autoimmune disease. Here is a quick overview of some of the symptoms of the most common autoimmune diseases:

Celiac disease: Inflammation and pain in the abdomen, chest burning, tiredness, weight loss, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Rheumatoid arthritis: Painful swelling and stiffness of the joints, particularly in the hands and feet.

Psoriasis: Joint pain, dry skin, skin rashes, and itchiness.

Inflammatory bowel disease: Stomach cramps, bloating, bloody diarrhea, nausea, and constipation.

Addison's disease: Tiredness, low blood pressure, low blood sugar, dizziness, dehydration, and loss of appetite.

Type 1 diabetes: Frequent urination, increased thirst, loss of energy, blurred vision, hunger, and nausea.

Vitiligo: Loss of skin color (especially noticeable in darker-skinned patients).

Hashimoto's disease: Weight gain, tiredness, depression, joint stiffness, and increased sensitivity to cold.

Graves' disease: Weight loss, anxiety, shaky hands, high blood pressure, and sweating.

Lupus: Muscle and joint pain, rash, tiredness, and fever.
Since many autoimmune diseases share similar symptoms, diagnosis is often challenging.

For example, lupus affects the joints in a similar way to RA but tends to be less severe. Lyme disease also causes joint stiffness and inflammation similarly to RA but is caused by a tick.

IBD has similar symptoms to celiac disease but is not typically caused by eating foods containing gluten.

Symptoms and Signs of an Autoimmune Disease

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, especially a combination of several of them, you may have an autoimmune disease:

  • Uncontrolled blood sugar, especially as a child or young adult
  • Joint pain, muscle pain or weakness or a tremor
  • Weight loss, insomnia, heat intolerance or rapid heartbeat
  • Recurrent rashes or hives, sun-sensitivity, a butterfly-shaped rash across your nose and cheeks.
  • Difficulty concentrating or focusing
  • Feeling tired or fatigued, weight gain or cold intolerance
  • Hair loss or white patches on your skin or inside your mouth
  • Abdominal pain, blood or mucus in your stool, diarrhea or mouth ulcers
  • Dry eyes, mouth or skin
  • Numbness or tingling in the hands or feet
  • Multiple miscarriages or blood clots

Diagnosis of Autoimmune Diseases

The following are some of the medical tests used to diagnose an autoimmune disease:

  • Autoantibody tests: any of several tests that look for specific antibodies to your own tissues
  • Antinuclear antibody tests: a type of autoantibody test that looks for antinuclear antibodies, which attack the nuclei of cells in your body
  • Complete blood count: measures the numbers of red and white cells in your blood; when your immune system is actively fighting something, these numbers will vary from the normal
  • C-reactive protein (CRP): elevated CRP is an indication of inflammation throughout your body
  • Erythrocyte sedimentation rate: this test indirectly measures how much inflammation is in your body

Diagnosis Differences
The diagnosis of autoimmune disease differs based on the specific disease. Rheumatoid arthritis, for example, may be diagnosed after a physical exam, blood test, or X-ray. These tests can determine the type of arthritis as well as how severe it is.

Diseases can sometimes take years to diagnose because many symptoms of autoimmune disorders mimic other diseases. Conditions like lupus and celiac disease may be misdiagnosed in their early stages because their symptoms are so similar to other diseases.

Hashimoto's disease and Graves' disease are a bit simpler to diagnose as they usually rely on a simple thyroid test. This test determines levels of thyroid hormone.

An autoimmune disease usually centers around the immune system and the antibodies produced by this system. As a result, diagnosis often involves testing for specific antibodies.

A complete blood count may be ordered to measure the amount of white and red blood cells. When the immune system is fighting something, the number of white and red blood cells will differ from normal levels.

Other tests can determine if there is any unusual inflammation in the body. Inflammation is a symptom that is fairly common among all autoimmune diseases. These tests include a C-reactive protein test and an erythrocyte sedimentation rate test.

A doctor should be seen right away as soon as symptoms begin. While symptoms may not always be caused by an autoimmune disease, it's best to tackle any issues right away than wait for them to get worse.

Medical Treatment Strategies
Unfortunately, conventional doctors only treat the symptoms of autoimmune diseases; they don't look to find the root cause. Often, they prescribe medications such as anti-inflammatory drugs, steroids, or immunosuppressants.

All of these treatments fail to address the underlying cause of the autoimmune condition in the first place and, while they may be effective in the short term, they are not a long-term solution. Treatments involving immunosuppressant drugs increase the risk of severe infections and cancer when taken for long periods of time.

Medical treatments include:

  • Hormone replacement therapy, if necessary
  • Blood transfusions, if blood is affected
  • Anti-inflammatory medication, if joints are affected
  • Pain medication
  • Immunosuppressive medication
  • Physical therapy

Alternative Treatment Strategies
If you suspect that you have an autoimmune disease, the most important steps to stopping and reversing your disease and symptoms are to identify and then to treat the underlying root cause.

Identifying which autoimmune disease is affecting you can be a difficult process. Symptoms may be vague, and autoimmune diseases can present themselves in so many different ways, affecting the thyroid, the brain, the skin, or other organs.

Work closely with a functional medicine physician or naturopathic doctor to help you with a proper diagnosis. A proper diagnosis is key to getting well.

Ensure that they review your family medical history, and understand your risk factors for infections, food sensitivities and toxins, as well as listen to your body closely to discover how all of your symptoms are related. And, you should keep a food diary to track how you're feeling and when you have a specific flareup,

All of this is an essential part of diagnosing your problem and getting well. A functional medicine physician, naturopathic doctor or similar alternative health professional will help to narrow down which labs they recommend in order to help find the root cause of your condition.

Then, they can help you design a nutritional and overall wellness program to treat your disease.

The following alternative therapies have provided relief for some people:

  • Nutritional therapy
  • Raw Juicing therapy
  • Detox therapy
  • Herbal therapy
  • Chiropractic therapy
  • Acupuncture
  • Naturopathy
  • Homeopathy
  • Hypnosis

Types of Autoimmune Diseases

There are several different types of autoimmune disease that may affect different organs and systems in the body.

There are nearly 80 different types of autoimmune disorders. While some like Hashimoto’s thyroiditis are quite common, some are rarer.

Autoimmune diseases that affect multiple organ systems

  • Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) – this is a chronic auto-inflammatory disease. It is seen more commonly among females. The diagnostic tests are usually positive for antibodies against nuclear proteins including nucleic DNA and RNA. Some of triggers for flare ups include UV radiation, viral infections and stress.
  • Acquired Autoimmune Disorders caused by Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection is also seen. Infection with HIV causes destruction of the immune system leading to damage to several organ systems and tissues.

Autoimmune diseases that affect the eyes

  • Acute anterior uveitis – this is the commonest inflammatory disease of the iris of the eyes. There is a strong genetic association with HLA-B27.
  • Sjögren's Syndrome – an autoimmune disease in which the immune system damages the glands that make moisture, such as tears and saliva.

Arthritis

  • Ankylosing Spondylitis – this is a common form of chronic, inflammatory arthritis that is caused by autoimmune pathology. It affects the joints in the spine and the sacroiliac joints of the pelvis leading to severe pain, deformity and disability.
  • Reactive Arthritis or Reiter's Syndrome – this is usually triggered by an infection. There are three classic symptoms of this condition including inflammatory arthritis of large joints (commonly knees and lower back), inflammation of the eyes with either  conjunctivitis or  uveitis and presence of urethritis in men (urethral inflammation) or cervicitis (cervical inflammation) in women.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis – this is an autoimmune disorder affecting the tissues in the joints. It leads to severe damage of cartilage in the joints leading to inflammation. Other organs such as lungs, pericardium, pleura, and sclera of the eyes may also be affected.

Autoimmune diseases affecting hormone producing organs

  • Diabetes Mellitus Type 1 – here the autoantibodies affect and target the insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas leading to their severe deficiency. The lack of insulin leads to increased blood and urine glucose.
  • Autoimmune Pancreatitis – this is an inflammatory condition that affects the pancreas.
  • 21 - Hydroxylase Deficiency – this condition affects the adrenal glands. This condition leads to excess production of androgens, which are male sex hormones.
  • Autoimmune Thyroiditis – this condition leads to inflammatory cells targeting cells of the thyroid causing them to be destroyed leading to an underactive thyroid gland. Chronic thyroiditis or Hashimoto's disease may being at any age are is often common among middle-aged women.
  • Graves’ disease is an autoimmune disease of the thyroid gland that leads to an overactive thyroid gland.

Autoimmune diseases affecting the skin

  • Scleroderma – this type of autoimmune disorder commonly affects the connective tissues of skin and blood vessels, muscles, and internal organs. The disease usually affects women more commonly between ages 30 and 50 years.
  • Dermatomyositis – this condition results in inflammation of muscles and a skin rash. It may affect persons with cancers of the lungs, abdomen or other organs.
  • Psoriasis – this is an autoimmune skin disease. There is excessive growth of the new cells underneath the layers of skin.
  • Vitiligo – in this condition the cells that give pigment to the skin are destroyed leading to formation of white de-pigmented patches.
  • Alopecia areata is seen when the immune system attacks hair follicles or the roots of the hair.

Autoimmune diseases affecting the nerves

  • Multiple sclerosis – this is an autoimmune disease that affects the brain and the nerves. The autoimmune cells cause damage to the myelin sheath that normally acts as the protective covering that surrounds nerve cells.
  • Myasthenia gravis – in this condition the immune system attacks the nerves and muscles leading to severe weakness

Autoimmune diseases affecting the blood and blood vessels

  • Polyarteritis nodosa – this is a severe autoimmune disease affecting the small and medium-sized arteries that become inflamed and damaged. The risk of this condition rises with hepatitis b and C infections.
  • Antiphospholipid antibody syndrome leading to damage to blood vessels
  • Hemolytic anemia – this type of anemia is caused when the immunological cells damage the blood cells.
  • Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) – this causes damage to the blood platelets that are essential to formation of blood clots.

Autoimmune diseases affecting the gastrointestinal system

  • Autoimmune Hepatitis – this type affects the liver when the body’s immune cells attack cells of the liver. There is a genetic predisposition to this condition. Autoimmune hepatitis affects 1-2 people per 100,000 per year and affects women much more often than men (70%).
  • Celiac disease – this is caused when the intestines react to foods containing gluten (e.g. wheat).
  • Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) – this condition leads to severe and chronic inflammation of the digestive tract. Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are the commonest forms of IBD.
  • Primary biliary cirrhosis – in this condition the immune system slowly destroys the liver’s bile ducts.
